: Spring Clave 3.0
OK, after being as good as possible last weekend and reading about everyone else getting into some decent fish, I'm going to have a tough time getting through the work week.
I'll circulate a list of the cell phone numbers to everyone. There are some major attractants for the day and I thing we will most probably have a large contingent in and around the "quaint little drinking village with a fishing problem".
7:30 gathering at The Cove in Orleans for Saturday planning, cocktails, fly tying & pizza (?)
1. Casting lessons with Capt. Todd Murphy
2. Group ventures (info on selected areas to be emailed to attendees)
3. Lunch: Juro & I thought it would probably be best not to formally schedule anything since we know that most of us aren't going to walk away from fishing to drive some place for lunch.
3. Barbecue or dinner out? You guys decide, I can pick up the food for a barbecue.
4. Cocktails, fly tying, lying & story telling.
1. Survivors (from Saturday or Saturday night?) breakfast.
2. Fishing as planned.
1. We have 3, maybe 4 boats coming. I would appreciate the boat owners who have any room available emailing me re: how you want to bring along a guest or 2.
2. Lodging: Only a few deposits have been received ( I am guilty of not sending one), I'll get a hold of Sean Fields and see how he wants to handle it.
3. Lodging: 12 people Friday, 14 Saturday, overflow can be handled by friends of the forum or camping. I will bring my tent & stay at Nickerson if necessary.
4. If we barbecue, I will need to have some volunteers bring a grill or two, I will not have my truck so my space is limited.
5. What else? Let me know what else you guys want to do & I'll do my best to make it happen. I know I haven't built this up as the mother of all conclaves but I prefer to keep it as simple as possible.
Let's catch some fish, meet some other fly rodders, fish some places we haven't fished before & have fun!
05-14-2001, 07:47 PM
Who do I send my money to for the lodging, I guess I don't remember any specific details regarding how much exactly, and who to send it to.
Looking forward to the first fish of the season, and hopefully the first keeper size bass of my career!
Well fellow clavers, we have ourselves a "legal on a fly" challenge before us! It's customary that do everything we can to rid our forum clave attendees of this status. Dave, no promises but I think you'll have a got shot at it this weekend!
Gettin' antsy and it's only Monday!

Roop, I don't know where your going to get that many guys in one resturant. We should try for a cookout. I will help with food etc. I will be down Thirsday night so who's going on the riprider Friday morning?... I migh leave earlier with a yak and look for any members on South beach... weather permiting.
05-15-2001, 04:07 AM
The cookout idea sounds good. The Anchorage has gas grills that we could use.
Check with the owner. Also, if the tide is correct, dead low, we could fish out in front of the Anchorage and have a blast. But if people don't feel like cooking that's fine too.
No problem grilling out with this crew... here's a pic from the last Boneclave, out on an island campsite:
We are men, we grill. ;-)
Thanks for the response guys.
FH - I'll check with Sean to make sure the grills are up & running. So what do you think for a menu? Burgers & dogs or steak tips & chicken or.... striper? (joking, joking, joking)
I'm either staying in Nickerson or Pocasset Thursday night so I'll be catching the 8AM Rip Ryder - look forward to seeing you again.
Anything else others want to contribute to the cookout, please post here.
05-15-2001, 07:32 AM
The cookout would be my vote, if it's a go I'll be happy to bring along anything! Maybe we can start a list of what is needed, so we don't double up on some things and come up short on others. I like the tips and chicken idea. If we agree, I'll pick up the meats and start the marinate tonight.
(not only do I like to fish, I aint so bad at eatin either!)
FISH ON !!!
COME AND GET IT !!!
oh yea! I'm in for the riprider Friday am.
05-15-2001, 07:38 AM
You can add me to the "Legal on a Fly" challange, I caught a bunch last year, but 27" was the champ on my line. Hope to change that, and can't think of a better place or with a group I respect more. YEEHAA!!!
05-15-2001, 08:18 AM
Roop, if you are in the area Thursday night... drop by CAC.. if you have problems with Nickerson you can stay at CAC.
Hey guys, temporary pause in the day...
1. Deposits for lodging:
Hold onto your cash, if need be, I'll charge it & you guys can pay me, I'm waiting to hear back from Sean.
Let's make a final decision on the menu by tonight - 8PM. I'll tally any votes posted here & we'll run with it from there.
3. Jeff B:
WHAT!? Striper thumb? Come on, Juro was telling me what a stud you were the other day nailing all those fish. Hope you can find some way to join us.
Thanks for the offer, I replied by private email.
Just sent an email to all attendees re: plans for where we will be fishing Saturday.
If you have signed up & did not receive my email, please email me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Barbecue Saturday night will be planned Friday evening, we can pick up what we need at the local grocery store & all pitch in to cover costs.
What else? Let me know.
05-16-2001, 04:29 AM
From the looks of the last BBQ this alone is worth the trip down.
05-16-2001, 06:37 AM
Can someone give me directions to get to where everyone will be? Is there a link that has a map? I will be staying in West Yarmouth, but need directions to where all the festivities will be.
05-16-2001, 08:15 AM
Check out the links to the sign up page - there are directions / links to maps etc.
I know I just sent out the email last night re: spots but I am lining up a 7:00AM boat ride for Saturday AM for my group and need ballpark figure of who will be tagging along.
05-16-2001, 09:43 AM
Provided I can make it at all, I'd love to catch the 7:00 with you. I can let you know friday if i have to pull out...
05-16-2001, 09:59 AM
Jeff, put me and Jimmy down for the 7 am shuttle... if that's what your talking about
7am rip ryder sounds good for me. Count me in. God I can't wait for the weekend.
My weekend schedule changed somewhat. I resubmitted another signup with updated info. Hope this was the right procedure. Sent you an email with some info on my oversand access.
Looking forward to the weekend!

I'd like to sign up for Juro's Outside Beach expedition on Saturday. I've not yet fished a real surf situation and some of the reports coming in from that area sound like there's something very special going on out there!
05-16-2001, 01:25 PM
Saturday in the sand at Nauset sounds good to me, I've already signed up for the rip rider on friday, so Juro, if you have room? I'm in.
05-16-2001, 02:33 PM
My buddy Jeff and I are in for the 7am shuttle Sat. if there's still room. Hopefully this w/e will be one to talk about all season.
05-16-2001, 03:14 PM
Saturday on Nauset sounds great. If there is room I'd also like to do this sortie. Otherwise I'll make my way over to South Beach.
05-16-2001, 03:24 PM
Roop, if there's still room on the 7am shuttle I'd like to hop on as well.
05-16-2001, 05:21 PM
Not sure if you've done all the assignments yet, but I'm open to either the Rip Trip group or whatever else works out. Do you intend to do assignments ahead of time, so we know who we will be tagging along with. I am definitely a tag-a-long, as I know absolutely nothing except that all the spots are in the portion of the state of MA, referred to as Cape Cod!
Dave, et. al. -
First and foremost it's going to be a casual thing, so you can follow along with any group you choose. There are no assignments. We just decided it would provide the most opportunities to clave-goers if we split up into venues so people could try one thing in the morning and another in the afternoon. The stories at night will have an influence on the next day's outing, it always does!
Because of tides and such, some spots can only be fished at certain times - but for the most part you should have been getting all the emails and are free to choose any of the options that sounds good to you. If you have questions that would help you pick your agenda, just reply all to the emails and we'll give you the low-downs.
Just for clarity's sake... there is not going to be a Rip Trip per se, just the regular Monomoy Shuttle, which is a short trip across from the mainland to either the South beach extended reach area and/or North Monomoy Island. The "Rip Trip" mentioned a few times recently is another trip altogether requiring the chartering of the whole boat and much advance planning.
A sure highlight will be the Anchorage, which I am hearing is a gorgeous place with adjoining decks and fireplaces, ideal for cookouts and waterfront relaxation.
05-16-2001, 06:34 PM
I will try to make for 7AM even if I have to leave Holliston at 3:00AM.
05-16-2001, 07:06 PM
I am losing track.... Friday morning I may yak or take the 8 AM shuttle to South Beach.. Friday am... Jimmy is coming down from NJ hopefully early before the 8. If it's yak I will meet up with Bob Pink and launch at Hardings or discus with him about launching from the causeway at Morris Island. I will direct Jimmy to the shuttle and meet up with him at south Beach .Thursday Night If the timing is right I am planning dinner with B. O'Brien. Roop may come down also Thursday night.. D. Fix is planning on staying Thursday or Friday Night. Saturday am.. planning on the 7 am shuttle ... Fish hawk will meet me there as well as the others. Saturday afternoon Brewster flats maybe.. I am writing this all down because I need to know if I am missing anything I may have told others. I think Juro is right, Saturday would be planned Friday night... so Friday during the day has me in potential logistic problems.. but knowing that things are loose anyway will keep it flexible. I just need to make sure Jimmy is not left in the lurch Friday Morning so my departure time by Yak or Shuttle may need to be compromised. Sorry about all this but ...
Thanks to your offer, I'm planning on crashing at CAC Thursday night & catching the 8AM shuttle so Jimmy can join me if you & Bob are gonna yak.... Try not to get any on your reel - it might clog it.
We have 11 right now, last year max capacity was 10(?) and I think the NEW RR can handle more than 10, will confirm tomorrow.
Saturday AM 7:00 AM shuttle crew;
2. Jeff G (tentative)
8. Fred A
9. Matt B
10. Fliboy, if he wants
11. Fishhawk, if he makes it
I'll try to post tomorrow if Keith can take more than 10.
05-16-2001, 08:38 PM
Thanks Jeff.. That simplifies things... I wil see you Thursday eve.
05-17-2001, 04:12 AM
If there can only be 10 people on the 7am trip can we catch the
shuttle after he drops off the first group or will we have to wait until the 8:00 Am trip?
We will understand if he wants to wait until he gets a full boat load at 8:00. I would t?en fish at the bottom of the stairs with*anyone who can't make the*first trip.
05-17-2001, 04:47 AM
Fishawk...he will go at 8.. with or without a full boat
05-17-2001, 04:50 AM
Fishawk... that was to quick... I would be very surprised if he would not go immediatly.. plus Tom or his other assistant would probaly use the other boat which is also moored there.
I'm pretty damn sure the new boat can carry more than 10.
Juro, do you have an answer?
Otherwise, I'll find out when I get back in the office this afternoon.
05-17-2001, 09:05 AM
Roop, I just got word that a friend is coming down this weekend and he'd like to get on the 7am ferry as well it turns out that the new boat does hold more than 10.
Per Roop's other thread, the new boat holds 20! Are you guys thinkin' what I'm thinkin?
05-17-2001, 06:05 PM
Let the games begin!!! I can't wait for the Rip Trip.
See you guys at 7. FishHawk
