walleye

i was fishing yesterday at the spillway of a large resavoir here in the so. indiana. i was workin a bigger heavy clouser in the deep
back eddies and was catching walleye's very strange it was my first walleye's ever..i just thought it was odd. any body else catch walleye's on the fly? by the way i did have to keep two of them that were both about 19" to see if they tasted as good as everybody says they do.

They also catch them in the St. Joe on the fly while fishing for steelhead, St Joe is loaded with them. Saw a nice 6 -7 pounder brought in when I was there in March on a steelhead fly, a pink chartreuse egg type attractor fly. Walleye season was closed so it was released. Yes they are great eating.

Not many people intentionally fish for them with flies though they are usually an incidental catch in rivers when fishing for bass or trout.
