: Red Soxs/mariners Weekend!

05-17-2002, 09:46 AM
The two best teams in baseball so far this year at fenway, stripers everywhere, boy you guys out in New England are gonna have a great weekend.
Went to the game last Sunday at Safeco Field to see Pedro pitch and he looked like he is back completely. Total comand and when he needed to he went up a notch to get the job done.
Hope you get a chance to see the Mariners new young pitcher named Soriano. He was just brought up from AA ball and has been a pitcher for only two years now. With only two outings in relief so far it's too early to tell but there are indications here that this guy maybe the next Bob Gibson. If your an old red soxs fan then you will remember what Bob Gibson did to them in the world series. A few days ago Soriano K'd 5 out of 6 batters he faced against the Jay's and none of them came close to touching his 97 mph fast ball that has movement or his slider, curve and devestating change up. Thier gonna bring this kid into the starting rotation soon but most likely not this series.
This series may be a look at the American league championship in October.

As a Yankee in Soxtown...we'll see whats happening in October. *

*above comment not directed towards Mariners fans. Only directed towards fans of teams that have tendencies to gasp for air as it becomes crisp and cool.

Hey Nick,
As a long time soxs fan and now a former fan I will totally agree with you. But at least in October red soxs fans from this site can worry more about how good the fall migration fishing is than worrying about playoff tickets.

On 6/5 look for a guy by the Lighthouse with a Yankee hat on.... thats me.

Last time I wore that hat at the Lighthouse a few Locals in the parking lot gave me a rash of semi-friendly crap. Crap or not history tells the story.

I used to wear mine...I found you can get into better fishing spots being less offensive. ;) Curse will not end... If the sox are up by 10 games...there will be a World Series ending strike.

"Curse will not end... If the sox are up by 10 games...there will be a World Series ending strike."

Nick, on that I agree with you. Heck, I still have visions of the ball bouncing through Bill Buckners legs in 85.

You guys with the Yanks ball caps on while fishing Cape cod better watch out for Assault and battery with a deadly fly!

Red Soxs fans are so lucky to have such a curse. Homer himself could have not written such a tragedy with charecters such as Bucky Dent, Bill Buckner and many many more. What would New Englanders sitting around a wood stove on a cold winter night do if they did not have the curse of the Bambino to talk about. Red Soxs fans don't really want the boys to win the world series that would ruin everything held so deeply in the hearts of generation after generation of fans.
Think how bad the Cubs fans have got it and here in Marenersville we fans have no history yet at all.

Yankee caps in Chatham? Isn't that de riguer? Sure seems like out of state plates are... Kidding, I kid...

Hey Nick - Forgot you're a Yanks fan. Hey, forget about all those spots I told you about last night! No fish there!

05-17-2002, 01:16 PM
Even if I wore a Sox hat my license plate still would give me away as a New Yorker. I can't hide up there.

Have to watch for that new Mariners picture.

Pinella was one of my favorite yankees when he played.

Brought up in Northern NJ, during yankees dynasties Maris, Mantle, Berra, Howard, Richardson, Kubek, Skowron, etc.. Elston Howard lived in the town I grew up in Teaneck, NJ. Went to lots of Yankess games as a kid, father had friends who were ushers and got into the club house after games several times. Great remembrances seeing the players after the game.

Guess I am still a Yankee fan although in mid west chicago for 23 years now. Cubs and Sox rivalry is great here in Chicago, north siders versus south siders, etc.. Glad the Cubs are bad so far I will be able to get bleacher tickets this summer.:D :D

My three sons played a lot of baseball and I managed and coached them for about 13 years straight, great memories, always been a baseball person.

Hey this red soxs team is for real! They may just have more talent than any soxs team I can remember in fifty years. If and the big if is can they stay somewhat healthy,(pedro) and can they keep out of the usual soxs club house fiascos? If they do we will be seeing the red soxs in the AL playoff and I hope it is not the 5 game series because no one will beat Pedro in the short series.

Ya know that you don't have to set our team bus on fire as we leave town in the Ted Williams Tunnel. Save that for the next time the Yankees come to town!

05-20-2002, 01:18 PM
If you are a real baseball fan you need to go to a game at Fenway and Wrigley, been to both myself. As long as the Cubs keep losing I will go again this summer. Great old time baseball type atmosphere, except for the ladies in the tank tops etc.....:smokin: :smokin:

05-20-2002, 04:39 PM
Being a fan of both, I am OK with either team doing well - but let's see how things go over the next several weeks when the M's get the easy opponents that the Red Sox built their record on up to this point, and vice-versa.

Gentlemen, let's revisit this thread in a month

How about that game last night! Keep it going Sox!

05-24-2002, 06:47 AM
Seems to be a factor of who's pitchers arm is going to blow up next! With so many early season injuries it could get very interesting.

I got to see my first live game at Yankee stadium last Tuesday (that was the game we won vs the 'Jays).

Those in the know tell me that Red Sox / Yankees at Fenway is an experience not to be missed.

05-24-2002, 08:21 AM
If you get to go see NY vs Boston in Bean Town by all means go! Make sure to have pleanty of NY paraphanalia with you and your life insurance paid up! Leaving your fishing gear to everyone on this site would be a nice parting touch too.

05-24-2002, 08:28 AM
Ahhhh..... Another Red Sox Victory over the other team in New York.. The Red Sox hand me downs.:hehe:

05-24-2002, 08:53 AM
I refuse to admit that other team is from NY! I like to think NJ. The Mets, Jets & Nets smell worse than a sun bloated bunker!!

05-24-2002, 08:58 AM
Nice win over the Yanks last night. But lets not get too excited..... we will see who's left when the fall roles around.

Hey SHM! No raining on our Sox parade just yet! Please let me suspend disbelief at least through August...

On a (far more) serious note... I really hope that this race stays tight till fall. Terrific baseball. Also, as a lifelong Bostonian I'm getting more and more embarassed/irritated by the 'yankees suck' cheer. Last night, Urbina's got 2 strikes on Posada and Jerry Remy's getting drowned out by the crowd. Get over it folks. At first, mildly funny albeit obnoxious. Now, kind of pathetic.

05-24-2002, 11:54 AM
At least they are polite and use "semi-clean" language up there in B-Town. At Yankee Stadium they really need to hand out ear plugs to the kids!! Some of the language I hear would make a hooker blush.

I certainly hope its a close year with lots of nail biting and jaw clenching throught the season. Really makes for a great summer / fall and if not there is pleanty of water and fish to occupy our minds.

Sandi and I will be in Boston for four days before we go down to the Cape. We are hoping to catch a Red Sox/Blue Jays game on the 1st. Tickets available are in the right grandstand or the bleachers. Read on the web that the bleacher seats in Fenway are better than the grandstand---what do you guys think?

05-25-2002, 08:55 AM
Bleachers are good and are cheaper, grandstands are good if you dont get an obstructed view seat.

05-27-2002, 05:48 PM
Ouch- Those darn Yankees
