Over the years, fly lines dry out, becoming stiff and wiry, and crack-prone. I've read that the coatings lose their polymers. As a total non-chemist, I wonder if there might not be some chemical that we could rub or soak the line with to restore its youthful complexion. A friend suggested Armor-All, but we haven't tried it. Any suggestions?
Try fly line cleaner and conditioner sold in fly shops, though a line that is cracked is not repairable. That's when you switch to using the opposite end if you have a double taper line or buy a new line if you use a weight forward line.
