Saturday's fishing at the mouth of the Housatonic was a constant reminder that it's still April in New England. The wind was blowing from the Southwest with gusts up to 12mph, and it made wet hands feel even colder.

I fished the last three hours of the outgoing tide and picked up 4 schoolies ranging from 18-24". The rip that forms off of the point of this bird sanctuary is very strong, and would you believe that I didn't have my spool with my quick sinking line? D'oh! I only had my intermediate with me, and I know that there were bigger fish around because someone throwing jigs that got down into the rip was getting fish up to 28 or 30". Only the littler guys were bothering to come up for my offerings. Seeing the larger fish was encouraging, because up until then I had only heard of fish the size that I was catching being taken in the area.

This is a beautiful area and it's much closer to my home than I had previously thought. Kudos to the CT Audobon Society for providing and maintaining such a great place. I saw at least a dozen different species of coastal and estuarine bird. I will return to fish the area more thoroughly (and with the right line) soon. There's only so much area that can be covered in an afternoon.

The striper skunk is off!

Great News! I've never fished that area but will give it a shot the next time I go south.

Q- Let me know if and when you're headed to the area. Maybe we can drag Adrian along with us.

By the way, learn from my mistake and don't forget your SINKING line!

Sounds good to me. Maybe even this weekend? Guess I need to get a sinking line!
