I see you brought your portable bar, what's everyone else gonna drink?

Looks like a grand time, great way to shake the pre-season blues!

Sully,

What was the ride like in the Hell's Bay skiff?

Based on your experience, would you ever buy one if you wanted to fish skinny water?

Nice fish!

Roop -

I've seen one or two around here, most recently in NH, on a trailer behind the guy's truck, complete with poling platform and pole. I believe it was 50hp on 16', moderate deadrise, looked like the displacement style hull would glide over skinny water. I drooled a little, stalled to try and meet/talk to the guy, but never connected. BTW, he even trusted the fly tackle (Sage) to be left in open sight; he must have been close by.

Roop,
My impression is that the Hells Bay is designed just for flats / skinny water. We were never in water more that 2-3' deep. The boat has a 40 HP and with two guys jump up on plane instantly in very little water. The guide seriously knew the area and scared the crap outta me a couple of times doing 30 MPH in the Marls. He never hit anything though. ;)

To get back to your question The Hells Bay is probably the premium top of the line of the flats skiffs. His had the poling platform, 4 rod storage under the gunnels, large storage seat / cooler, storage in the rear and lots of storage under the casting platform. I don't know the specs on it but it seemed heavy in that it gave a very smooth ride. It can't be drafting more than 6-8" of water. I have some more pictures at home that I will try to post tonight or I can email them to you. Overall I was very impressed with the boat.

John,
Actually I hate Boca's but the guide wanted to weigh the fish. 4#'s even.

DFix,
Actually I was dressed like I just walked outta FF magazine. ExOffico pants, Patagonia hat, Simms flats sneakers and flats shirt. ;) Also that was only the 2nd full day I was there and didn't want the sun to peel my hide off. I've already had skin cancer removed twice.

Lefty,
No that's about an average size bone. In the Marls they ran 2-4#'s although I lost a beauty when a birdsnest of flyline hit my first guide. PLINK! Only fly I lost the whole day.
