I heard that Orifice has aquired the patten for the Redington reels and that they won`t be produced anymore. I believe this is the reason for the great deals on them at the Marlboro show. what I want to know is how are we supposed to get parts and service on our lifetime warrentee?

I would be very surprised if these reels were discontinued. They have been selling like crazy since they were introduced and the general market is lacking reels in this price range that offer this kind of quality. It would be a real bad move for Orvis if it were true.
Orvis owns a share of Redington as of last year as we all know. I heard the rumor that Battenkill sales were hurt by Redington reel sales and so this may be a consolidation of the lines. I also heard rumor that parts and service will be maintained by Redington despite the deal.
Jim Murphy was not at the Marlboro flyshow to confirm service policies but I'm sure the service / parts will continue if not from one then from the other. If anyone is going to Somerset you should ask at the Redington booth just to make sure.
Maybe the union will produce a hot new reel in that price bracket?
On another note I cast the 9wt quartz rod... very interesting. Looks like someone spilled milk on the blank but it's as thin as a 7wt and throws a whole 9wt line easily. Supposed to be virtually unbreakable by impact resistance.

Was in the Bear's Den tonight and Scott said he was told Friday, just before the show, that the AL and AS were being taken of the market. As I understand it, this action was part of an agreement for Jim Murphy to buy back Reddington from Orvis (or Orvis's parent). Warrenties will be honered but if you need spare spools dont' pass up the opportunity if you come across any. Scott didn't think there was any patten issue. I've got Scott looking out for a gold LA spool for me - I won't hesitate too long to pick up a black one.

They may make an outstanding reel at an excellent price but remember that they are at built overseas by a company other then Redington or Orvis.
Redington/Orvis are at the whims of what that firm wants to do especially if they want to raise the price.
For the price of a Redington you can get a Cimmaron, a Teton Tioga or a Velocity.
I am not saying the Redingtons are a bad reel because they are not but prepared to be up that infamous creek without a paddle.

Just recieved an email today from John Brazelton, head of the Redington reel division. He told me that the rumors of the Redington reels being discontinued are false. There are no plans to discontinue any of the models. He assures me that these are nothing but rumors and that everyone should be made aware of that. All warranties will be honored.Spools and parts will be available. They will retain a repair facility for all Redington products.I was told to pass this message on to everyone and say that anyone can reach him at firstname.lastname@example.org or 1-800-253-2538 Good news for us all.
Thanks Tony, I'd expect nothling less from Redington.
They're definitely a quality outfit that has proven their goal to take care of their customers!

While at the Marlboro show I picked up a new Ross Cimmeron (sp?). the price was right and they are a sponsor of this site. I also bought a hat a while back and then decided that since I own the hat I'd better back it up with the reel.
