I was reading in a nature magazine today (wildlife) that the apache trout is slated to come off of the endangered list in 2002. :D
It is Arizona's state fish and only found amidst the rivers and streams of the White Mountains in Arizona.
The apache trout now has a strong-hold on a whopping 150 miles of streams, almost 70% more than a decade ago.
Hats off to the good people of Arizona for saving this wonderful fish. :)

This true Mayflyman, the Apache trout is coming on strong. I love to fish for them as they love to hit dry flies. My favorite stream in the White Mtns is the Black River. It is overflowing with Apaches. They are a beautiful fish and they arent' too bright, they will hit almost anything. My two cents. Drifly

Mayflyman- Good to see you posting again! For a while there I thought that I'd be going to New Zealand on a shoestring budget by myself.......:D

The apache trout is a delicate resource. It's like the canary in the coal mine, a harbinger of bad things to come when the population swoons. Lets hope this reversal means that good things are to come.
