Speedsters and tuniods, do they have teeth like blues or can you lip them like a bass?

Craig, Bonito have fairly large, cone shaped teeth, lipping is definitely not recommended. False albacore don't have teeth, but have fairly hard, bony lips, also not conducive to lipping.

The best way to handle most tunoids is by tailing them, the hard tail with the narrow connection to the body makes an excellent handle. You do need to be a little careful because both species have small triangular 'fins' on their backs & undersides leading down to the tail junction and rough handling can break these off.

These cone teeth that you talk about, will they cut through 20# fluro. What size tippet do you recomend?

Generally 12# flouro for me, although when the spanish and/or blues are around you need wire or disposable flies. Before all the flouro hubub I have hooked them on 10#, 12# and 15# mono tippets, but I have no idea how many I might have missed due to standard mono tippet. My suspicion is not very many, but possibly a couple. I've definitely had my share of rejections over the years, flouro or not.

IMHO the presentation is the biggest factor, then the fly, then the tippet. If you get the first one right the other two follow. Heck they are taking pencil poppers out on the Vineyard right now!

Thanks Matt and Juro for the info! I'll be stopping to pick up some 12# fluro.

Go with 15#. And Albies do have teeth. Not the forward on the lips kind like Bonito or Spanish Macks but further back on the roof of the mouth.
