I have got some extra time on my hands and I am wondering approx. when do the fish leave the Cape for southern waters?

Just about 5 minutes before your fly hits the water.

Craig -

I've done well into early November but once the migration is underway it's a location game with fish thick on one tide and gone totally on the next. Since the access points are all wide open that time of year the trick is to keep moving if you are shore bound like me.

Favorites include:

Chapin Beach / Bass Hole in October
South Side beaches and river mouths
Outer Beaches from Race Pt down to Nauset
Stage Harbor inlet
Canal
Loop and Oregon Beaches in Cotuit
Chatham light beach and South Beach are good during the migration
etc, etc

what I am trying to say is during the migration you could have mass pods of fish anywhere along their route. Keep moving, all the doggy warm summer spots might be packed with hungry moving fish on any given tide.

Good luck on both fronts.

I have been told that it ends at the close of business at 5 PM on October 31.
