My creative juices are beginning to flow in anticipation for some saltwater fly casting. I had a breakthrough evening at the vise last night. I'm wondering where I can find quality, up close photographs of northeast baits - sandeels, silversides, juvenile herring in particular. I have some photos and many drawings and descriptions, but I would like some really high quality, up close views of the real thing. Any suggestions? It would be great to post quality bait photos on the site for tying reference - size, colors, ect. Check this link out - it shows some color variation in sand eels - http://www.nafc.ac.uk/publish/note6/note6.htm
GregO posted some incredible photos of silversides and juvenile menhaden recently. Try the search icon to see if you can locate them. I'll do same... they are worth the hunt!
Back from the search... GregO the images are no longer visible... should we put them on the Forum server so they will be available for the duration?

I think I deleted them off my website, because I needed room for my antique lure pictures. I'll try to bring them back, or at leat email them to you, & you can re-post.
BTW: Have you gotten the rest of the areals scanned?
They are in queue... anyone want to learn web publishing? Ah, the perils of a one-man web production team come to light.
Yet this problem is being addressed... as we speak. (drumroll)

Actually I got excited seeing the photo - I said the name Atlantic silverside to myself and the latin name just popped into my head. Wish I could have done that when I was at school :). A buddy of mine is doing a juvenile bluefish predation study and I have helped him collect quite a few of these down in Sandy Hook, New Jersey. They are cool looking - that lateral stripe is very apparent out of the water. Surf candies sure look like a dead-on imitation to me.
