Nice fish moved in over the weekend. Large temperature difference upriver.....10 degrees warmer.
Fished with Jim Chase on Sunday. Finally broke out the flyrod. Towards the end of the trip had a legal size fish on...first time ever into the backing. But due to a very loose drag and a single digit flyfishing I.Q., on the fish's second run away from the boat, yours truly decided to clamp down on the fly reel with a hand. OOPS! POP!! Waaahhhh! Bye bye!
Kind of made up for it this morning....2 legals...but that method not condoned here. :)

OOps...wrong forum....sorry.

Glad you got to see the skinny stuff care of a big striper! We've all had similar snafu's take fish away from us, so I know you don't feel alone in that department. I remember many in fact.

Each spring it amazes me how warm the water is coming out of the Merrimac. I suppose the tannin brown color and the numerous dams helps heat the water from the headwaters in Franklin.

Absolutely fabulous PI fishing.

Over thirty fish from shore with a flyrod on Sunday. Action fast and furious with blitzing fish on 1 1/2" - 2" bait. Went home, slept for an hour and returned at dusk. Landed my first 28" keeper with a short chartreuse angel hair and ultrahair jiggy. Wore out my forearm flexor witht he landing effort in the fast rip.

Monday AM showed huge schools of busting fish womping on the miniscule bait. Terns screaching like 15 year old girls at a Backstreet Boys concert. Was "wading" along the sand shelf on northern PI. Fish were busting all around me. One bump, no hookups! I switched from chartreuse to white and started slammin' them. Largest 26.

The wind was brutal: steady with severe gusts right in your face. It was worth it though.

Better try to make it down before the bait guys start ruining it.
