I need help and suggestions for a backup fishing trip for the last week in September. My original trip to fish the Missouri in Montana might be cancelled due to the fires.Where would you fish on the Cape or Rhode Island at that time frame? I would not have access to a boat but would hire a guide for a day. Thanks for your help one of these days I'll make one of your trips.

The cape and Vineyard would both offer some outstanding fishing at that time of the year (weather dependent). Outer beaches, Monomoy, even most of the s.cape shorline would be productive. The Vineyard will be on fire (no pun intended) for it's Derby time, might have trouble getting a guide.
That's an awesome time for bigger fish around the cape, and I'll bet the Watch Hill rips or Fisher's light rips in Rhody will be full of big fish too. Most bass and blues will be shifting toward southern waters, and even the average spots will hold some great fish from Chatham to Woods Hole and beyond. The fish on the bayside hang around Bass Hole, Paines, Quivett and Barnstable Harbor for several more weeks and are getting into that wild autumn binge thing by late September. Monomoy will have snapped out of it's dog days and the outer beaches will be coming into their own. It's a great time to be fishing in New England.
If you haven't already done the Watch Hill reef thing, you gotta try it.
If you haven't already done the sight fishing flats thing off Monomoy, that might be the ticket.
Then again, the way the fish kicked butt on the last rip trip we just might have a trip lined up for late September too! http://22.214.171.124/images/flytalk/Wilk.gif

In the last week in September, it should be easier & cheaper to get lodging on the Cape or RI (MV could still be booked, especially if it's derby week).
