I went to a local lake yesterday to take a few casts but only managed to catch a couple of bluegill. While I was there I spotted this guy (or gal). I don't think it's a true albino because it doesn't have red eyes. Have any of you seen an all white muskrat before? I did an image search online and found a couple other photos of white muskrats so maybe they aren't too rare, but I've never seen one until now.
Looks like a plain old white rat from the pet store to me, was he the size of a regular muskrat, it just doesn't look quite right.

Jon - it was definitely a muskrat. It looked and behaved just like all the other muskrats I've seen except for the fur color. It swam out from underneath some rocks, dove down to the bottom, and then swam back with a mouthful of weeds and muck and went back under the rocks.
I guess if it was diving and foraging that's pretty convincing it wasn't some kid's pet rat out for a swim.:-) The ears just looked a little more prominent than your average muskrat ears.

Pete...................I guess you would need to use white wide rabbit strips and white
marabou to tie that one....if you try...remember...scent is important if you want to truely match the hatch. :chuckle:
We have confidence in you!!!
