: 2010 Annual film contest

Some of you may have seen me roaming around the Cape with a video camera this spring. To make a long story short, I decided to put together a five minute film to enter into The Drake film contest. Well.... I just got word this weekend that the film is one of the ten finalists for 2010. Its going to be shown at the annual fly-fishing film awards this week in Denver. Unfortunately I'm not going to be able to make it out there to see the show but I must admit its fun knowing a couple hundred people are going to see it.

The bar has been set high by previous films and I'm under no illusions of winning but I certainly had a lot of fun making it. Its a little rough but I think it does a decent job of showing the quality of our fishery. I tried to show the spring northeast experience without spot burning or being too specific.

Anyway, if you have five minutes take a peek here.....

Great stuff! How did you get all those stripers to pose for you? You should get a lot of attention at the festival.

There's no doubt this film will be enjoyed by all! Thanks Dave and good luck. And thanks also to our Sponsor Art Sawyer for helping you accomplish your goal. I have a feeling a few film companies and directors will be seeking you out for more. Patagonia? Seychelles?

Good luck Dave.

You are competing with my buddy Jan Kristensen from Denmark who has a film about tarpon fishing from a float tube.

My the best man win.

Yes that's him.
We fished in Chatham in September last year together. I don't think you met him.

Hey Dave how did you get on?
I understand that the Awards were presented last night.

I know Jan won a prize but I don't know which one.

Yep, not sure how it went last night. Congrats to your bud!

I wasn't expecting to win anything knowing that there would be films that were of much greater quality. I was just happy knowing that a bunch of people would see it.

I got your email. I'm thinking about making a go at it. Let's chat when you get a chance and see if we can't hammer out some details.

They did a great job with that. That does it ... I read they filmed that whole thing with DSLRs that shoot video. I'm selling all my cameras and getting one.
