Thanks very much and appreciated...I look at my sign given to me by members of this forum and notice the date engraved is 2000. I am glad I don't feel anything like 60. Thanks.

Belated but still meant: HAPPY BIRTHDAY, John.

What is it, the 30th anniversary of your 30th Birthday? You don't look a day older than - - - ? Easy for someone who was getting his Mass Drivers License when you were born to say!

Anything of interest, other than the Great Whites happening in the waters around Chatham? Spent 10 days at cottage in Mashpee with next to nothing to show for it. Lot of casting practice and VERY few fish got in the way.

Hope to see you this fall.

Thanks once again to all. All I can say about all this stuff in Chatham is This..." We were coming back from the island of Tinian to Letye, just dilivered the bomb, the Hiroshima bomb, a Japanese sub slamed two topedos in our side, we went down in 20 minutes. Our mission was so secret that no distress signal was sent. The first shark showed up , a 10 footer, know how you can tell Chief, by looking from the dorsal to the tail.....100 of them, I don't know maybe 1000. So we formed ourselves into squares, you know, like the battle of Waterloo. We lost maybe 6 men an hour, When a shark comes near you you hear all the thrashing and screaming. Sometimes the shark goes away....sometimes he don't. Then he bites you, and his eyes roll up, black lifeless eyes like a dolls eyes.... THe next morning I bump into a friend of mine, Herby Robinson, bosums mate, baseball player from Cleveland. I thought he was asleep and swam over to him and touched him....He tipped over like a top...well...he had been bitten inhalf below the waist....a little while later a big fat PBY come flying in, with a pilot ,a lot younger than Mr. Hopper here...soon a Lockheed Venture came swopping down and began picking us up. You know, that was when I most afraid ..waiting for my turn...I'll never put a life jacket on again..,1300 men went in the water 130 came out and the sharks took the rest, April,??, 1945 , Anyway..we delivered the bomb."

THat was from memory.

Sorry about the typos...I can not type well on a blackberry typing so fast and I can not seem to edit my post...very frustrating...But, I think I got most of Quint's speech...about the USS Indianapolis.
