Hey guys I am new to this shellfish game but being a MA state holiday I wanted to do something outdoors so decided to have a serious workout digging softshells. A real back-breaker!

Anyway I stumbled upon a colony of giant softshell clams, way too big to steam and gulp, or fry. I think I bit off more than I could chew - you'd choke on these giant bellies. I'm not sure I'd want to try :Eyecrazy:

Any of you seasoned shellfishermen know what to do with them? I worked way too hard to find them to let them be.

Chowder? Do I need to remove the contents of the bellies?

Batter 'em up, heat up some of your favorite lard and deep fat fry 'em.

Nice! Cooking them on an open grill is awesome too! They steam in their own juices and you can brown them a little.
