: Rip Trip - September
09-01-2009, 08:06 PM
I spoke with Keith today and Jim Simms and will be back in Chatham on friday. Jim will work with Keith on a number of dates and I suspect we are looking at Mid -September. The weather is looking good for the next 8 days but I will wait for Jim to post the respective dates after he speaks with Keith. Nice having dinner at the Squire with Juro the other night and finally saw the flyfishing den at the "maison D'amour" on Main Street.
Talked to Keith yesterday, and he will let me know what dates are open for him in the next day or so. We will try for weekends, but could arrange a trip during the week, if there is enough interest. The charters are hitting the rip, and the albies should start to show in that area.

Count me in on a rip trip..............
09-04-2009, 09:02 AM
I am in also, and will be in Chatham tomorrow though the week and next week. I will call Jim tomorrow and firm up the dates as soon as we can with Keith. I will ask my son to get the back room at the Squire for our group afterwards and perhaps guys who can't make the trip can still meet up for dinner and include spouses or friends if we get the room.

I will get down there from Maine for the trip whenever it is scheduled.
09-04-2009, 06:39 PM

09-04-2009, 11:33 PM

09-06-2009, 01:23 PM
i'm in for the 26th, may have a +1 too. my new nieghbour fishes ;)
I'm in for any of those dates!
09-07-2009, 01:40 PM
Jim, I count 10 guys for the 19th. Shouldn't we schedule that date assuming we can also move it down to the other dates if weather makes us. I suspect we can get 2 more for the 19th.I say we do the 19 and if it's great we can always schedule another. I am on a handheld and ask that you confirm that number and let's do it.
Looks like we can do the 19th. I will include Silas Maitland and myself for that date.
Later this week when I get organized (fishing interferes), I'll complete the signup list and post additional info.
Twelve, it appears, are available for a Rip Trip:
Please insure that you are available for Saturday, the 19th. With 12 participants, the cost is $50 each. If weather poses a problem for the 19th, then the alternate date will be Sunday, 20 Sept. Let me know if that is suitable for all the participants.
If there is a minimum of 10, we may want to schedule another trip for Saturday, Sept 26th.
09-08-2009, 08:39 AM
Jim....I am assuming that we meet at the refuge. What time should I be there?
09-08-2009, 08:50 AM
19th and 20th are both good for me. :smokin:
09-08-2009, 08:59 AM
The 19th and 20th both work for me--I will be there.
09-08-2009, 11:49 AM
I know that I am late trying to get in but keep me in mind for the 19 or 20th if some space opens up.
Larry aka shadfreak
09-08-2009, 12:48 PM
I can make the 19th and any weekend after that. I could make a week day with enough notice.
09-08-2009, 03:03 PM
PeteVicar and I don't arrive till Saturday night (19th), so can't go on that day.
The 20th would be perfect for us, though.
09-08-2009, 03:14 PM
I am not fishing today and Jim is probably fishing. Unless I am wrong if Jan and pete are not available on the 19 then polareyez and Larry (shadf) will take the spots.
I'm definitely in for the 19th or the alternate date, the 20th. Nice spring tide days!
09-17-2009, 08:09 AM
O.K. - I've been checking NOAA four times a day for ther past week and watched the forecast slowly improve each day. Looking good right now except Saturday is going to be windy....... :
N WINDS 10 TO 15 KT WITH GUSTS UP TO 25 KT. SEAS 2 TO
NW WINDS 5 TO 10 KT. GUSTS UP TO 20 KT IN THE
EVENING. SEAS 2 TO 3 FT IN THE EVENING...THEN 1 FOOT OR LESS.
SW WINDS 5 TO 10 KT. SEAS AROUND 2 FT.
09-17-2009, 09:09 AM
North winds on Saturday....that means it will be at our backs.
09-17-2009, 11:53 AM
Yes, we should still shoot for Sat even if Sun looks less windy. We will have it at our backs with somewhat high dunes behind us including extra casting distance. I also suspect the water will end up cleaner. Plus we have our numbers and Keith should be have no issues with north wind. If we cancel we have to hope the winds don't change over night and there are SW winds predicted and I would bet that we will not get there this weekend unless we do Sat. I hope Keith agrees.
09-17-2009, 02:47 PM
I am still in and will be down tomorrow afternoon. I assume that the Refuge is the gathering point. What is the starting time (please forgive me if this was posted earlier). Sounds like the makings of a very good adventure.
09-17-2009, 03:54 PM
Jim Simms will post final stuf tonight. I can not make a final list trying to type on this BB keyboard. I expect that we will leave fro the refuge at 7 sharp. That means we should all meet at 6:30 to give time to gear up. We need Jim to post that it is a go. I will if I hear back from Keith. Rick Wm can not go so from what I can tell we have 9. We could take 12 so if anyone wants to go post that you want to other than the guys who already posted. But please post IF you ARE NOT going to show. Guys may not have the extra cash on them to make up the difference... So for those comming just bring extra just in case. This maybe the first and last of the year. I can put up guys who have no place to stay Friday night. Just let me know if you need a place to stay.
09-17-2009, 04:37 PM
Jim, If you have got space for Friday evening still, I'd love to take you up on your offer. Thank you very much. I will need directions, however.
09-17-2009, 04:38 PM
Sorry, John--I addressed my message to Jim--will do better next time.
09-17-2009, 07:51 PM
I just got a call from my two sons who just told me they were planning on coming down tmorrow night for the weekend.....so I feel like I jumped the gun on opening CAC. I now feel there would not be room and I also thought Larry P. And another guy would be able to stay if they had asked. I am sorry to have to take the offer back and feel stupid for not having checked with them before I posted. Adrian just stopped by and will be there saturday. Jim and silas are going off with Jeff Smith for tuna tomorrow but Jim says he spoke to keith who will make the "go or no go" tomorrow.
09-17-2009, 08:50 PM
Thanks for the thought John. My wife and I are staying in Eastham and she is biking while I am fishing. It is very kind of you to think of me. I hope that the trip runs on Sat because I can not go on Sunday and it would be great to see you. May be we can meet and fish even if the trip fails.
If there is still another slot available, my friend Ryan said he's down for the Rip Trip.
09-18-2009, 08:25 AM
Just confirming, if it's a go, I'll be there.
09-18-2009, 09:12 AM
Ok Cole, your buddy is in. Jim is fishing offshore today so I will call Keith today or he may post here if it's a go or not. I will post as soon as I know. I am concerned that the news (not from NOAA) just said gusts to 40. The final call may end up to be this evening. But hopefully we will know so that travel plans can be accomodated.
09-18-2009, 11:44 AM
Keith will post an explainatio of why we are CANCELLED for sat. I don't know if JimS was able to have his tuna trip today because it's honking down here right now. So my question is how many do we have for Sunday with PeteV and Janman in Chatham. I could make it but what are the numbers. I will leave this to JimS.If not I am not giving up. Keith has the boat in till November.Let's all hang in and we will get down.
09-18-2009, 12:04 PM
sorry guys, as most of you have seen forecast is North or Northwest depending on what source you use, but the consensus is 15-20 with gust to 30 knots and not subsiding until late afternoon early evening. This would make landing on the west side impossible. Striblue will let me know on howmany were available for Sunday and we will watch the wind forecast for that day. The boat is in the water until somtime November, so we have plenty of time and opportunity to get out there.
09-18-2009, 12:14 PM
I am good to go for Sunday. Thanks for the heads up for Saturday-it came just in time.
09-18-2009, 12:49 PM
I am really bummed because I can not go on Sunday. I hope that the fishing is outstanding for you on Sunday.
09-18-2009, 02:32 PM
Sunday it is. See you then.
09-18-2009, 02:52 PM
Pete and I are still good to go for Sunday! Flight leaves in 12 hours
09-18-2009, 05:31 PM
Sunday is good for me too
09-18-2009, 05:55 PM
I am good to go on Sunday....
09-18-2009, 10:02 PM
Jim Simms will have to make the call for Sunday. Not sure I can make it but I see Janman, Petev, Adrian,Hyway61, as able to go, I would think Simms and Sila and maybe Bob (I may have that name wrong but he is staying with Jim)I have not heard from Pete G. That is 7 right now absent other confirms. If it can not go off I will set up another sign on for next Saturday or Sunday. If that does not happen I will try each weekend Though the middle of October at least.
09-18-2009, 10:06 PM
Sorry, missed Gary. I also saw Craig at Simms this evening and he said he would go on a reshedule next week. So I see 8
Hi John, I'll be on the boat if there is a Sunday trip.
09-19-2009, 09:31 AM
If we end up with fewer guys, I would not mind paying extra to make sure tommorrow's trip is a go.
09-19-2009, 09:45 AM
I plan to head out of her shortly for to join you for the Sunday trip, assuming that there is room. The weather and wind forecasts seem to be favorable.
Have a call into Keith to make an assessment of weather conditions for Sunday. As soon as I know something, I'll post.
09-19-2009, 02:52 PM
The wind swept isolated experience is worth a college try...
When/If we gather at the "refuge" for a head count...if there are too many folks who have traveled from afar to sample this gem of a special spit of sand, I'll throw myself under the bus and give up my place so that the uninitiated can partake...other wise...
Standing by to stand by for news...
Our good Capt. Keith Lincoln is erring on the side of caution and cancelling the Rip Trip for Sunday. It is based on the southwest wind building throughout the day. This makes a pickup difficult and hazardous traveling toward Stage Harbor.
With the southwest wind forecast, my recommendation would be to try the bayside. I don't have any current intel, but with the big tides, bait should be pushing out of the estuaries and harbors.
09-19-2009, 05:21 PM
I would love to pull my hair out....but I don't have enough for that social statement. I am willing to stay at it and see if we can do next weekend if Keith can do it from a scheduling (seal Trips) . I can make it and RickW. can....I know JimS can, and probably PeteV and Janman.....CJS60 (Craig) could maybe make it as he said he would be watching the forum. I would expect penguin will be around. I am willing to stay at it until mid October....That would be four attempts give or take. I will set up another thread. Just sign on if you would like to.
09-20-2009, 06:12 PM
This morning was fairly calm and it promised to be a gem of a day...
Can't get much better! Probably picture perfect at the RipTip...
Around lunch time the SW breeze started to turn on...sort'a like what was called for...
I went sailing [Hobie Adventure Island] around 1500 on the Bay of Lewis and by 1630 there was a steady 10-15 out of the southwest...I ate some waves in the Hyannis outer channel...
Had the Right Honourable Captain Keith not made his painful and educated call, we would probably still be marching back in the dark for a pick-up somewhere on the inside...
Hat's off to the Good Captain!
