The 3rd or is it the 4th ? annual kick off the clave 2 hand gathering will be held friday the 29th at Bell road at the west end of the Cape cod canal cape side. Low tides around 0900 am with the tide turning east around 0750 am.Dependent upon the amount of attendees we will either stay there to fish the mud flats or move on to other 2 hand fly rod friendly canal locations. Hope to see you there.

The Vermont contingent will be at least 3, and quite possibly 4.

If you'll let a newbie join your group, I'll be there. I'm acquainted with overhead casting with a switch rod only, so my learning curve is straight up.

Since this is my first clave, it sounds like something I might be interested in, so I guess I'm a "maybe". I'll have to see what all is going on with the guys I'm staying with.

I may be there - is there enough room at Bell rd to fish a single handed rod ?

Mark.

I would be very interested in joining in.
I have never cast a 2 hander in the salt but I have a lot of salmon experience.
What should I bring, a 13ft #8 or 15ft #10?

Why not bring both, Those are the length rods I normally have with me.

I would suggest a general meeting time of around 6:00 -6:30 at the bell road parking lot, It's guaranteed to be a busy area, being a Friday. A early arrival to secure a parking spot is highly recommended. Personally I will have had several hours of fishing in already:chuckle: .

We met at the designated Bell road location, due to the phenomenal fishing of the past week in the area we were not going to have the flats to ourselves, an elbow to elbow line of spin fisherman had already secured the spot, after many bribes :chuckle: and promises:D to not ever reveal the location of my secret UDL honey hole, I relinquished and revealed the location to the crew:eek: .Conditions were perfect with a new moon tide ebbing, plenty of fish were caught, nothing of extreme size ,but just right to kick off the 1st annual JFBasser clave.

Awesome -

I'm still trying to hacksaw the chains off my leg but should be able to break free soon. After burning some midnight oil last night I'm not sure I could handle a full shift at the Squire with the likes of whom will be there but I will try to get there in time to survey the aftermath :lildevl:

The JFBasser Clave 2009 has officially begun!

2 hander kick off was a great opportunity for us beginners to learn. Much thanks to Paul, Sean and Adrian who were well ahead of the curve compared to the Vermont gang. Special thanks to Paul and Sean for also helping out with line recommendation and set up.

I look forward to fishing with you guys again soon.

I echo G Serie's comments. Also I'm now sure that on a day with a lot of blind casting, ditto casting over surf, and very windy the 2-hand longer rod approach works a lot better for me, and is far kinder to my shoulders. Thanks again for all who contributed.
