: Matane next week? Other rivers?

I'll be fishing 6 days on a couple of Gaspé rivers (Bonnie, Cascapedia) in the coming 10 days, and thought about adding another couple of days afterwards. Considering my options at this point, and glad of any advice.

Matane is on the way home, so that is one possibility. How are conditions (Howie? Pierre?). I've never fished Matane, so would be interested in a guide. Is the Metropole a good place to arrange a guide, as well as a room?

Other option is to head further east and fish York, etc. How are conditions there? I see Jere's grinning mug on Ann's page -- congrats!

Matane has been very good in the last couple days. Depend of the rain they will receive today, Cap Chat and Ste Anne could also be valuable option. Regarding the Matane, Metropole is right in the heart of the best water at this time of the season (everything above the bridge going to Amqui is close after the 15Th so forget about Grand Tomagodi or Cap Seize), and Louis can guide you.

If you ever consider Mitis and Rimouski, just be aware that the FQSA will held an event with 73 anglers on both rivers next saturday and sunday. So each river will have more than 36 anglers, 1/3 being beginners coached by experts for an introduction in salmon fishing, an other 1/3 being anglers guided by regular anglers of each river to discover the pools of the Mitis and the Rimouski, the last 1/3 being the mentors and guides. Usualy, these 2 rivers have less than 6 anglers per day in september...

The registration for this event was in last march, it took 48 hours to fill all the place available, 8 places were added last august, and were filled by the reserve list.

Thanks for the suggestions, Pierre.

The Ste-Anne is another river I know little about, beyond rubbernecking at Cap Seize and a few other pools. It has been low, I guess. What sector(s) are good this time of year on Ste-Anne?

Hope the FQSA event goes well. Maybe Karen Guimond and Claude Derosier are involved?

Claude Desrosiers is one the mentor.

Ste Anne, in fact, there is only availability in the lower sector, but if the rain is good, there could be a run of fresh fish coming in. Anyway, Ste Anne has one of his best season of the last 15 years, so there are many fish everywhere, even in the lower sector. After a bunch of water last week, the water was back to a low level yesterday, but the station show it is going up right now.

Matane today is high and dirty, but coming down. Rain two days ago raised the river substantially. There are a few fresh fish coming in. Be advised that the river is now closed to fishing above the Amqui Bridge. This means the pools up river are off limits to fishing. With half the river closed, there is still great water to fish and as Pierre said, the Metropole Hotel is right in the middle of the action with great home cooked meals and comfortable lodging. The proprietor, Louis Bason, is one of the best guides on the river and can guide you to the most productive beats as well as some secret places he fishes to avoid competition. As stated, with half the river closed, there are much less fisherman on the river as things are good.

I also heard that the Bonnie is fishing great right now. Good Luck.

Thanks Howie!

Am spending the night in Ste-Flavie, having driven through rain for the past 3 hours. Looking forward to fishing on Friday.
