In order to help the beleaguered Juro keep count of how many people are going to attend the Saturday night dinner social extravaganza we need a head count. Juro is trying to arrange a cool place to party & needs to know how many will be there.

Please Post here or send me a PM if you plan on attending the dinner Saturday Night. I will try to update the list at least once a day.

Juro please PM me if you need me to help with anything else, I'll do what I can do.

Josko, the Spring Clave is our annual kickoff to welcome our striped friends back to the Cape after their migration from the Hudson and Chesepeake. It will be held at the Stone Horse Motel the evening of Saturday, May 17th. The Stone Horse is on Rt. 28, just south of Chatham in Harwich.

Most of us will be fishing and staying at the Stone Horse that weekend, and can direct interested parties to tag along with us, or be directed to some fishy locations.

I'm not quite sure what I'm signing up for but you can put me on the list :D .

Maybe I missed something or maybe it hasn't been decided yet: Do we know yet whether this will be at the Stone Horse or is there still some possibility of a special venue as was mentioned in an earlier thread? Are we bringing food? It sounds like the pig roast on the beach will present some logistical problems so I guess that's not a viable option :hihi: .

Q all I know is that in usual Juro fashion whatever we are doing is a big secret:hihi: Either Fearless leader is too busy to take the time to post his intentions or he is still trying to nail down the final details. I am sure he will pipe in soon.

Hey Juro WTF are we doing anyway?

In any event Q you on the list

juro
05-07-2008, 07:09 AM
haha

OK guys, you know me well enough by now to know I do what is best.

We had a very generous offer from one of our friends to have our bash at their place - big yard etc, would have been great... except having done a lot of these over the years my gut said get the info, then make the plan.

We quickly exceeded the capacity if for no other reason than parking (not to mention the impact of such a herd on anyone's residence!)

So plans B and C are as follows:

B) Castaways Restaurant, rte 28 Chatham very close to Stone Horse

Trying to get a fixed steak / chicken / fish menu, private party the entire place ours for the night including the bar.

C) the ol' Stone Horse BBQ again

I will let you know more details in the next couple of days. In any case it's at the hotel or a restaurant you could walk to from the hotel.

We good now?

The Stone Horse venue is handy if people want to start comparing flies or tackle.

I agree. If the logistics of the the self catered BBQ aren't too demanding on the organizers that seems like a nice low key/low cost option.

I'll pipe up (and then shut up) but FWIW:

This past three years I've watched Juro cary the "bulk of the load" in catering to a large crowd on the evening of the clave event. Its a ton of work and usually comes down to Juro and the same small group of volunteers spending 75% of the evening preparing and cooking food.

If there is a way to get the 'heavy lifting' done elsewhere, within walking distance of the Stone Horse for a reasonable rate, then that gets my vote.

We could still do deserts and tipples afterwards at the Stone Horse along with the usual round of fly swaps and tall stories and music-making :smokin:

Smcdermott
05-07-2008, 01:51 PM
Adrian,

Great points and if that is the case I completely agree. Didn't realize it had been such a small contigent carrying the load in the past.

I agree with Todd, I certainly don't mind pitching in with whatever needs to be done. Since this is my first clave I don't know what to contribute to the BBQ. Cash? Drinks? etc? Just let me know what is needed....

Other than the cost of the BBQ, the most important thing for me is help carrying the web site costs through the year. I can't continue to carry it out of pocket so will have to think of some creative ways to fund going forward.

Let me think about this as I contact a couple of places today.

I just received "Dubya"'s departing gift  . I'll bring along a bit of his economic stimulus package to help with the Forum expenses.

Maybe we could do a raffle or two at the festivities on Saturday. Maybe a 50/50 raffle and a fly raffle?

Juro,

Although it didn't bother me, I think several were wanting to donate about six months ago, but the Paypal approach wan't good for them for various reasons.
Maybe if there were alternatives to that, the donations would increase.
That said, what was the address for Paypal donations?

I was supposed to get a call tonight from the owner of Castaways who had a private party book the whole place tonight (as we were thinkin). They sounded very busy so I may not hear from them until tomorrow.

If that doesn't pan out I am thinking burger / hot dog fund raiser BBQ at the Stone Horse who has extended their hospitality to us again this year.
