7th Annual Rhody IceBreaker

Saturday, May 3rd, 6:00 AM to noon - Fishing
Barbecue 1:00 PM
High tide: 6:46 AM
Sunrise: 5:39 AM

Almost a month away and its time to get things started. Last year was a blast fishing from boats. We had over 22 people. Most of us had our rigs ready. We had seven boats, enough to get everyone on the water. With a later date, we caught more fish with some size to it. The weather was perfect for an outdoor hamburger/hot dog fling.

Once again we are in need of boats. That's the important factor. Slinger should be showing off his new Mako. Sweet ride! Most fishing will be done fairly close to the ramp, so there won't be a lot of running around. This will keep the expense of gas down for most captains. We fish the morning and meet afterwards say 1:00pm at my house. I start pulling my boat at 12:00 noon to get things rolling. There is plenty of parking for cars and trailers too, both at the house and ramp.

All are welcome to attend any/or all portions of the day's events. You need not bring anything to the barbecue. All food and soft drinks will be supplied for zip. You might want to pack something to snack on while on the water. Think about your captain too. With the larger numbers of intended fishers this year, I will put out a donation jar to help offset the expenses of maintaining the Fly Fishing Forum. It's strictly volunteer and all monies go to this site. None to any politican's pockets.

Good fly patterns - Clousers, (chartreuse, olive, and yellow), white deceivers, alewives patterns, bucktail flies, and jellyfish patterns.

Capt. Ray

Sign me up. I'm in.

04-01-2008, 05:45 PM
Hi Ray,
My calender is marked, I will have to be a passenger as usual.

04-01-2008, 06:46 PM
Hi Ray, I plan to be there and will be picking up my boat. FishHawk has already signed up to go with me. I'd prefer to go with just 2 in the boat, but can certainly take me plus 2 if there aren't enough spaces to go round.

Warren, I'll be combining this with a family visit, but if there's a ride I can give that makes sense, let's explore it.

04-01-2008, 07:06 PM
Can't make this one, Ray...casting competition at the Canal that day :smokin:

Todd, I was thinking of Maybe visiting with Slinger as he has told me a time or two to call him & stay with him. I have to see what he is up to & go from there. Lets see how everyones schedules work out, If I am as busy as I am now I may have to drive down late Friday night. Or first thing Saturday. We have a month to figure it out. Stay Tuned..... Same Bass time, Same Bass Channel:hihi:

I can hardly wait.

04-01-2008, 08:19 PM
Capeside for me that week-end too. :frown:

I know you guys will have a blast and there should be a ton of fish in the bay around that time :smokin:

04-02-2008, 09:37 PM
I'm back, and I'm in. I don't think I'll have my rig ready in time, so please put me on the list for a boat spot, if available.

I'm really looking forward to this. As always, thanks Capt. Ray for putting this together for us!

My attendance is up in the air as of now, one of the drawbacks of working retail, hard to get a Sat. off. I`ll do my best to be there, the new ride is sitting at the shop waiting to be preped. The Indians in thier generosity, just paid for the first years insurance.

We are about a week away from the Rhody IceBreaker. Private messages have already been sent to all those on the list so far.

During the next week it is important to know any additions or cancellations of personel. You should check this thread regularly as the week goes by. Changes made to the roster as edits do not reflect as a new post, hence it will not be brought to the top. I'll make a new reply to allert all.

Please exchange cell phone numbers with your assigned captain. This is the only phone tree we will have.

Just a note here I will be driving down Saturday morning. I had hoped to come down Friday afternoon & spend the night , but as usual the dark cloud of doom that follows me around has seen to it that those plans are out the window. See everyone at the boat ramp 0600 Saturday. :D

Hey Guys
Because of factors outside of my control, I will not be making the get together.
Have a great time and catch um up!
I will see you all in Chatham.....

05-01-2008, 04:10 PM
Say it isn't so, Joe !!!

Jim, you were our top draw this year.
Now what we going to do?
What good is an Elvis concert, without Elvis?

05-01-2008, 04:20 PM
Bay is loaded with bait. Little flashing mirrors all over the place. Took a few casts but nada. Worked on my overhand casting with the new rod. Losts of fun.
We should have a good day at the Icebreaker. FishHawk:smokin:

Unfortunately, it looks like the forecast is deteoriating. E winds with a bit of rain thrown in for good measure. Better bring your foul weather gear.

05-02-2008, 04:00 PM
The fish bite better in the rain. FishHawk :smokin:

05-02-2008, 05:41 PM
The weather is looking VERY fishy! Caught a bunch under the same conditions today near home.
See you guys tomorrow. Basser is looking forward to hearing from us. Let's keep him in ours thoughts. Maybe we should pack a Sluggo rod in his favor, just in case.

Seven is a lucky number. East wind, cold fingers, rain and fish! Many THANKS to Capt. Ray for putting all of this together! The only thing missing was a garage band! Great cookout. Thanks to Captain Slinger. His new boat is wonderful. We all caught fish and Sean managed to lose one to a straighten hook. Capt. Ray has the photos to share. Good times and great company. Can't wait for the next one.

What a great time despite the cold rain. Thanks to Capt Ray and his wife for hosting a great BBQ after a cold time on the water.
It was great fishing with VtLoon on his new Sea Craft . What a sweet ride.
Missed Jim Miller as he couldn't make the Ice Breaker . I would have loved to see his collection of flies. Good to touch base with Bonefishmon.
The secret fly of the day had red eyes . That was the ticket. FishHawk
PS. Capt Slinger looked good behind the helm of his new Mako. :D

05-03-2008, 04:49 PM
I would like to say thank you to Captain Ray for organizing this event, and a special thank to Mrs. Stachelek for opening up your home to all of us. The BBQ was great, and the coffee hit the spot. Also thank you to Captain Rene for having me on board, and another awesome day on the water.:D

05-03-2008, 06:38 PM
Good to hear from the Icebreakers on the phone. Thanks for the call Slinger

05-03-2008, 06:48 PM
Made it safely back to Hew Hampshire. It is always a pleasure to fish with Sean McDermott. That dude is a fish magnet, we must have caught a hundret:hihi:

We were fishing at Super Secret Spot UDL #6 I saw the fish that straightened his hook it was Melvillesque  That is all I am able to divulge with out a visit from the boys with the black Helicopters:tsk_tsk:

Special thanks to Ray & Elise for a wonderful BBQ and their generous hospitality. What a great way to kick off the Striper season.

05-03-2008, 07:29 PM
I'm very, very disappointed to have missed it; life has a way of throwing curveballs sometimes and changing the best laid plans. It's great to hear that those that did attend had a great time though.

I'll have to see if I can get that UDL out of Sean ;) I'm happy to hear that bigger fish are around.

I hope to see you guys on the water soon.

05-03-2008, 09:14 PM
Sorry you missed it Tim. You too Jim.
First fish of the season for me. Nice for the first fish to be bright, fresh fish with some shoulders on them. I actually had my drag squeeked a couple times.
Slinger's new ride is a lean, mean, fish catchin machine. I can see it now, there's gonna be some carnage on the Bay this season.
Thanks to Capt Ray and Mrs Capt for the eats and especially the hot coffee and of course thanks to Slinger for having me aboard.
Looking forward to a good season.
