I went down to the cape earlier this winter for some sea-run fishing and it turned out to be a disaster. I fell in up to my neck when it was 20 out, as soon as I got there. So i had to leave. I went to a place in Bourne I think, I will remmber how to get there and I have a few other spots I have read about I can check out. In my reading it said that the trout go out to sea at the end of January. I am wondering if I am too late to make a trip out there, or if there are any spots that people know are still active. I would also like to know what they feed on this time of year. Are they eating midges? Or would streamers and eggs be the way to go?
Thanks for the help,
I've had success there but havent done it for years but always in March or November. I have no experience in deep winter. You can find them later in spring and fall but fish in the evening, stay over then fish dawn and come home because the rest of the day is deadsville for the larger sea-runs.
Maine has sea runs in coastal streams as well. Browns are an exotic species introduced from Europe but New England once had sea run brookies all over it's coastline rivers and streams, kind of sad to think they're all but wiped out.
I once landed a sea run brown just under 24" on the cape. I have also caught searun brookies much smaller in tidewater though and silver.
I think I will give them a try in early spring what the heck, it's been many many years.

Sea Run browns are a summer night-time pursuit back in the UK. Many anglers consider it a crime to cast a fly into a likely holding spot until the sky is pitch black. They can reach some serious weights and are often misktaken for Atlantic Salmon.
I thought about breaking out the lighter gear and trying for them here. Sounds like a good excuse for a March trip to the Cape.....
Did I hear someone say "Sea-run Clave?" :smokin:
count me in Adrian, I'd like to try that again
Also, if the hunt peters out there are trout and brood salmon all over the cape in March
