I was just playing with a 10' 8wt (4 pc) that a friend just made using a CTS blank from NZ. It is a nice rod to cast, not tip heavy despite the extra length, and equally happy with a 9wt line. When he was deciding to make it, I suggested a 2 1/2" butt might provide a nice switch rod option. It did seem to, giving comfortable space for an index and middle finger pull. Using a 40+ 9 wt, it could really boom it out. Pretty rod too.
