: BONECLAVE 2000
It's time! Short notice and all, we're gonna do a Boneclave out on Washburn Island again like last year.
[modified 8-28 11:45] The dates are September 9-12th, with camping availability for the 10th and 11th. In other words, fishing starts Saturday but the camping starts Sunday. Saturday fisher's will need to find a place to stay off island. Two nights will be reserved, Sunday night the 10th and Monday night the 11th. Last day of fishing will be Tuesday.
Everybody's welcome! If we get too many folks we will need to expand the camping reservations beyond the current limit of 33.
We need boaters to usher the shore folks out to tunoid territory, some have already signed on. Ideally we will get a balance between shorebound and boat-ready anglers to let everyone have a tour out on the Vineyard Sound's speedster-rich currents.
The campsite is located on Washburn Island in Waquoit Wildlife Sanctuary. Boats can be moored right at the foot of the campsite, and the fishing grounds are a short run from camp. Even the outlet of Waquoit Bay itself is a hotspot worth fishing, I hooked an albie right from the rocks last year among many many bass. Adam even landed his there... but he really should have released it http://188.8.131.52/images/flytalk/Wilk.gif Brian C's boat got over 30 albies in a morning! Aye carumba!
Please reply if you're interested, I'd like to get an estimate of the interest in this event. The electronic sign-up sheet will go up within the next 24 hours. Ask all your questions here on the board, we'll re-use the FAQ on the signup sheet.
Hope to see you there and bring the wasabi!

Iron Mike - I added the dates... good point! (dOh!)
Any more questions you guys have, this is a great time to ask.
see ya there!

You know you got Al, and Terry. But the word from camp Bass River is that GregO is signing on (with a possible work trip interruption). So, plus 3.
08-28-2000, 11:54 AM
ChrisM and I are in.
08-28-2000, 12:23 PM
My boat and I are in for Sunday. Based on the tides, most likely an early morning and a late afternoon trip. Work is going to get in the way for Mon and Tues http://184.108.40.206/images/flytalk/Sad.gif" border="0" align="middle">.
I think my Albie legend has grown over time...Sully, Terry and I only got 15 Albies in the boat last year. If you were on board, we probably would have had 30 <img src="http://220.127.116.11/images/flytalk/Happy.gif.

COUNT ME IN
08-28-2000, 04:38 PM
I'm in for Saturday-Monday. (if you don't mind a spin fisherman tagging along)
As long as you agree to accept a free fly casting lesson from me at some point thru the outing http://18.104.22.168/images/flytalk/Wilk.gif
Look forward to meeting you,
Hopefully in for the whole shebang but my anniversary is the 10th.
Let's see what happens.
08-28-2000, 06:17 PM
That's an offer i can't refuse! Looking forward to it!

08-29-2000, 08:32 PM
At this time, I am in for Sunday AM thru Tuesday...........
John - very glad to hear you can join the festivities. Do you think your friend from Woods Hole could run over one of the days to escort a claver or two? Perhaps he could join us for camp supper, we don't compromise on these events and the company's great.
Terry - I'm sippin' a little scotch tonight, care of our claver from Calgary Pete Lavoilette. His generous gift of a fifth of double wood Balvenie aged 12 years was a fine tribute to the get together at John's den of fishing inequity last Friday, we even got a scottish joke out of Roop... each day a man, an ostrich and a cat come into the pub...
When Al gets done playin' at Bass River this week I'm sure we'll get him to do the inventory page so we can see who we have on board thus far, boats, etc.
Ne-Bay and I are in for Sunday am thru Tuesday.
08-30-2000, 08:04 AM
I will definitly ask Bucky if he is interested but chances are slim, unfortunately. I know he is off-Island for a week and half visiting his mom in upstate New York and will not be back until the 7th and he said something about going out for 8 straight days when he gets back. I will definitly give it a shot, though.
I, of course am tied up that weekend... I do have a canoe and a 11 ft. jonboat(with paddles) that you guys can borrow if needed. I'd volunteer camping gear, but that is what I'll be doing with my family. Tom D
08-31-2000, 12:28 PM
Update: We can't get the signup results till Al returns this weekend but: I checked the headcount and it's a healthy 16!
I'm sure there are a few still out there. I may have a friend with another 18' boat coming along as well. Once Al retreives the signups we will figure out who should bring what gear. We'll have a whole week to plan. Meanwhile if it matters to anyone I'm showing up Sunday early and staying thru Tues. Judging by the responses, Sunday will be the most attended day. So maybe a mid to late day BBQ could replace our usual big dinner. Thoughts? I can hear my drag singing now ZZzzzzzzzzz!
i'm so outta here

I'm back. Great vacation! No tunoids as far as Bass River is concerned but several memorable boating adventures, including the christening of "Anytide" -- the new name for Marvin's old boat. The family is ga ga over it.
Regarding the signups, I'll work on the reporting end of things into Monday evening.
Hope all is well with the board. It looks like the rip trips went well. Wished I could have joined you. Sorry tomorrow's a bust but the conditions really are dangerous out there and not a place for questionable equipment.

Sign me up - I couldn't make last year's - but gotta make this one. Still doing a Rhody Clave this year?
09-04-2000, 09:29 PM
Sign me up! I have never seen these fish in acton and can't wait. I am shorebound and need to know what to bring such as food to share or anything else. I think I'm ok with the tackle/flys part. What I need to know is the where (directions) and when. I will be coming Sat and maybe Sunday. I can't tell about Sunday intil the end of the week. Thank you Juro and anyone else that helps with this. I can't wait. Opps I'm repeating myself.
09-04-2000, 09:40 PM

Saturday..Is there a meeting time for that day? would that work, Also, I would need directions and also want to know if this is yakable. I will be coming from Chatham in the early morning... What should I bring for food or whatever for the crew? Thanks as always.

I just found out that my work travel is not til Thurs. 9/14, so I should be in for the whole 9-yards Sun/Mon/Tue. I have to see the Surgeon this Thursday, but I expect to get a clean bill of health & no physical restrictions.
I will be bringing my 19' boat & I'm looking forward to taking people out for morning & afternoon sessions. I may be selling my boat this fall, so if your interested, this Clave would be a great opertunity to check out the sea-worthiness of LOGO1.
Can't hardly wait !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
09-05-2000, 11:53 AM
I just updated my info on the clave sign-up. I was wondering is there a way to view the roster??
i'm so outta here
09-05-2000, 12:43 PM
Greg, there will be shortly. I'm digging out at work from vacation and tunoid chasing yesterday. I have captured some of the data here <-- Don't rely on this info any time past Wednesday 9-6. IT WILL CHANGE!!
09-05-2000, 12:47 PM
No way I can attend the full Clave, but I may put in an early daytime appearance on the east side of WaCkY jetties next Sunday. So if you see someone in a green windbreaker frantically thumbing for a ferry across at dawn or even pre-dawn to try Washburn, that would be me. Of course, that's assuming someone is awake by then ;)
P.S. Any RhodyClave planned this season?
DEFINITELY! I just gotta have my late year fling on Rhody every year. We will decide which date in October it will be held.
The Burlingame campground is a great locale for cheap lodging, but the hotels are affordable after Labor Day too.
Also: Outer Beaches Clave. Those two should do it for the year unless Nate gets us down to Hilton Head. I met another guy from the area who could take us around yesterday. It's not too far fetched to be hooking into 17 pound albies this year!
Look forward to seeing you this weekend,
09-05-2000, 01:54 PM
Outer-Limits & Rhody in that order.
I guess I'm volunteering to Co-meister O.L. I learned a lot last year. (1) Many Hotels close around Halloween (2) Cellular coverage is spotty. (3) The FairWay serves brackfast & dinner, but not lunch! (4) It's a long way between Nauset Town Beach & Race Point! (5) the Northern Beaches can be hot even late in the season.
I would recommend O.L. to be between Columbus weekend & Halloween. And Rhody a week or two after.
Of course, twist my arm on Carolina!
I can't believe this....you guys must truly believe that I am anti-social! While out on the Vineyard for vacation, I received a phone call for an invite(which I accepted) to join in on a charter ( board member...no less) this coming Sunday ( 9/10 ). My vacation days are all used up.
Bottom line...another clave without me.
Best of luck!

Where will we meet Saturday morning, I need some directions
can anyone help me out? Hawkeye where will you be, maybe I can hook up with you and Mike?
I haven't been of much help this year so far about Rhode Island. I spent all summer working on the old new house, and haven't done much fishing. I also have had some health problems, roto router, a hernia operation tomorrow. I hope by the third week in September to once again start chasing F/A's. My input is that there has not been any consistancy with the funny fish this year, YET!. Soon as I get back in my waders I will keep the gang posted on the Charlestown to Westerly beaches. Sorry I have not been up and running, I do watch the action on the board everyday. Good Luck, TL
Hi Art! Hope you're feeling better. We need our Rhody statesman in good health.
info page going up today. If you use search, there is plenty of info on directions, etc. There are three choices (or more) for access / launching and parking. The sure thing is WHite's Landing but it's a bit far from the campsite by water (inside channels) Basically you take 28 past Mashpee Commons (rotary) and keep going, the landing is on the left next to the boatyard near the Wildlife refuge headquarters. More to come.
*** CAMPING WAS NOT AVAILABLE FOR SATURDAY NIGHT ***
If you're fishing saturday, you'll need to make plans for lodging off island. The camping starts SUNDAY!

Sorry to hear that you are under the weather & I can certainly commiserate. After about a month of mysteriously feeling "crappy", I was finally diagnosed with Gall Stones. I was only in the hospital for 2 1/2 days & after about 3 more days of in house recuperation I was feeling pretty good, but no lifting, swimming, or Fly Casting (D'OH). Hope you surgery goes well & take advantage of the good drugs!
hi guys, you might wanna tie in the O.L. clave with the Jamboree from jeff smith's board on columbus day weekend
just a thought , Tom D
We had orginally even hoped to tie in the BoneClave too but you saw how last minute it got what with all the GREAT fishing http://22.214.171.124/images/flytalk/Wilk.gif
I have been reading Jeff's site frequently and am considering doing that. It appears to be an all-round fishing trip as opposed to flyfishing, is this true (I need to go read it again).
Thanks for the suggestion, it would be great to do a clave without boundaries and all that useless hoopla... as I have said since day one!
09-07-2000, 04:43 PM
I'll be around both saturday and sunday.
Sat morning from 6 to 10 or 12 I'm free to take out a guest. In the afternoon I have an obligation that I have to contend with. I free for all of sunday and will try to bring a chowder.
Great news Bob! It just wouldn't be the same without Boneclave Chowdah. I hope you realize you got me on a cherrystone addiction last year!
Look forward to seeing you,

What's your favorite cocktail? I gotta square up with you for last years sliders and chowda! Sorry no exotic fruit mixes I'm leaving the blender & generator at home. http://126.96.36.199/images/flytalk/Wilk.gif Email if you prefer.
