: Boneclave- Group Trip Details Sep 23-25 2007 - UPDATE

08-23-2007, 11:45 AM

Once again we are having our awesome group outing to Washburn Island ( Mashpee Cape Cod. We reserved the group site #9 for Sun and Mon nights Sep 23 and 24 for up to 3 days of fishing (if you can squeeze a day or 2 off from work-or just fish Sunday). Come and chase Bonito/Albies/Spanish Macs in Vineyard sound with us and enjoy the great camp food, laughs, and stories.

Lots of new info is being added as folks join the trip. So check back to this thread to find out if we need you to bring anything or not bring anything. You can respond here to let us know if you want to hop on board for the trip. There will be a gear list and boating details posted below. We have extensive experience on what to bring and how to prepare for the island etc.-Just ask. Things are shaping up for a great trip so far!

Lefty- *Salsa*,small boat, gas stove, propane tree, 25 lb tank, lantern, cook table, grilling basket, coffee press
JimW- boat, small table, trash bags, Ceasar salad
Juro- tables, cooler, lantern, small gas grill, kitchen cleaning supplies, plates, utensils
Mike Z- stove, pans, propane, eggs
Greg D, Josh, Brandon - boat, grill, BBQ goodies

Grego-boat, steak tips
nmbrowncom- boat
Jim Miller-boat
John Morin- day tripper
Aaron- BBQ! nice
Larry S.- boat, cigars

We anchor our boats right out in front of the camp site off the beach. There will be smaller boats pulled up on shore which you can use as a dingy to get out there to your craft. This is inside a quiet bay, not open ocean. So the mooring is easy with little wave action.
The Ramp is called White's Landing on the Childs river. There is a parking lot set aside for all the overnight parking of vehicles for the island campers. Multiple trucks and trailors will be parked there. Many of us will meet there at dawn on Sunday morning, proceed to the island, do a temporary dumping of gear, then head out to fish.

Driving Directions to Ramp:
From the Sagamore Bridge (Cape Cod Canal) proceed toward Hyannis on Route 6 to exit 2 - Route 130. Follow Route 130 toward Mashpee for 7.2 miles and bear right on Great Neck Road just after the Flume Restaurant. Continue to the Mashpee Rotary. Halfway around the rotary take Route 28 toward Falmouth. Reserve Headquarters is located on the left 3.5 miles from the rotary and White’s Landing is located 0.4 miles beyond the Headquarters, also on the left.

Alternate directions from the Bourne Bridge:

Route 28 South to the Route 151 exit.
Turn Right on Route 151 at the end of the exit ramp.
At the Mashpee Rotary, take the first exit onto Route 28 (going toward
Parking lot with trucks and trailors will be on the left, 3.6 miles from the
Just down the side road beside the lot is the ramp.
Sunrise is 6:30. I'll be there earlier to help coordinate stuff.

Alternate Ramp

Great River ramp is nearby. Parking can be a problem though, but after labor day is not bad.
Here's a link for the great river ramp. I believe it is open to non townies between labor day and memorial day.

Some notes about the camping situation there: This is a carry in carry out campsite. No running water so bring enough for the duration. No showers. A folding chair is a must for sitting around the site between fishing runs.

* Check-in:1:00 pm (those fishing at dawn on day 1 (Sun) will do an early gear dump)
* Check-out:11:00 am
* # of People: (min: 9, max: 25)
* Pets Allowed:Yes

Again more info at:

Things we need volunteers for:

Coffee makers (french presses work really well)
paper towels
extra ice
kitchen clean up tub, soap , scrunge ,

Let me know if you can bring any of these things. What else do we need?
....more to come

08-23-2007, 12:02 PM
I'll bring a two burner gas stove with propane bottles.
A couple of pots/pans for cooking
once i get a head count and if everyone wants it, I'll bring scrambled eggs for breakfast one morning
something to add to the pot for an evening feed
At least 5 gals water - don't want to skimp here, water is all I intend to drink the whole time and we need water for coffee, cooking and cleaning. One trick I use is to freeze bottled water and use in the cooler as ice. Once it melts, it becomes drinking water.
enough instant coffee and fixins to go around - an essential we've been short on in the past. My regular camp percolator is too bulky, too slow and too small.

With fishing and camping gear that's prolly all I can manage space-wise. Can add or subtract as list comes together.

08-23-2007, 01:07 PM
I'll have a boat with an insane cargo carrying capacity.

I can take one person for fishing on Sunday. Two people on Monday and Tuesday.

I will bring a 20ish by 10ish tarp contraption - heavy duty poles - peaked roof - a serious shelter.

One of those mega burner things they use for frying turkeys.

a colman cooking station table thing.

A kneeboard for towing water fun if anyone is interested.

Peach cobbler

A charcoal grill

I can make a pretty mean fish chowder if we would like that on the menu.

a 150qt cooler and 75lbs of block ice

I plan on getting a shellfish permit so with any luck I'll also be able to provide raw bar fare.

I plan on using the Great River ramp as I hate the whites landing one and being after labor day I'll be able to park.

08-23-2007, 01:30 PM
Yehaw! Now we're talkin!
This ain't gonna be just another campin trip folks!
Hawkeye's gonna show ya how it SHOULD be done!:smokin:
Got ya covered on the raw bar buddy! You bring the permit and I'll show you my secret quaohog hunting technique that doesn't require a rake.

08-23-2007, 01:42 PM
Great news. Can you add any more info on Great River ramp?

08-23-2007, 02:03 PM
The Great river ramp has gone resident only, but I think it is ok after Labor Day?
You can park along side the road up to the first sign now,but I don't like that for an overnighter.
I will keep a eye out after Labor Day and see how it looks.

08-23-2007, 02:04 PM
Terry, better sign me up for a weekend day...I just have to go so I can see you, Grego,Bigcat, and Hawkeye again...the old crew as Grego says:) ...John PS- Hawkeye- would love to fish with you on your boat if possible (remember that insane trip we tried to pull off during an alnighter off north monomoy with your first boat... and we said.."yaaa...let's go to the rips!!!!"...I think we made it only down to the crib and turned back because of the wind. I also still have that reel we traded for ... a classic CAC object and Terry's old cane surf rod)

08-23-2007, 02:23 PM
Put me down for a small table and trash bags
Of course water, ice and Cesar salad for one of the meals.

08-23-2007, 02:23 PM
Where's SSully?

08-23-2007, 02:46 PM
so dinner Sunday night but which is the big breakfast morning?

08-23-2007, 03:28 PM
Geez, almost forgot my Salsa.
Yes dinner Sunday night, most people on hand.
Sully's dance card is full, just starting a new job. I poked and prodded him but he's doing the responsible thing (for a change:D )
Breakfast? Won't have ol' Sully to cook it, and we will be full on Mon morning from Sunday nights dinner.
So Tues? On the light side? Or Mon. brunch?

08-23-2007, 04:03 PM
Been out of touch for awhile, too much craziness going on in my life right now, with selling the house; moving; a sick mother and wife and to boot a woman rear ended me while driving the company truck, now I`m out on comp! Just can`t seem to get a break this summer. Oh did I forget the boat still has a cooked motor! I`m waiting for a phone call that could turn all this around. I may still be able to salvage the late season. I love the gettogether on Washburn, I`ll be there if at all possible. I think thats the time when Pete will be in the nieghborhood, maybe a special guest appearance?

08-23-2007, 05:38 PM
Sorry to hear you got hit. Hopefully you aren't in too much pain.
Hope you can make the clave. You should come anyway even if that phone call doesn't come in time.

08-24-2007, 10:01 AM
Please include me in the operation. i would need a ride out on a boat if it is available, although in the meantime i might try to convince a boat owning friends to come down for the clave. This will be my second clave. At this point in time I will plan on bringing down BBQ (pulled pork, brisket, ribs, and sides) from the resturant I manage, Buck's Naked BBQ, Freeport, ME.

08-24-2007, 10:37 AM
Hey Guys,

So much for not much interest in the BoneClave this year. :hihi:

For the head count, Both my boys Josh and Brandon are planning to attend this year.

After reading Aarons post my mouth is watering already, should be quite a feast this year. I'm planning on bringing Shrimp for the BBQ and a small grill, some marinated chicken, chicken Sausage as well.

Can't wait to see you all at the site or on the Water. May we be blessed with Calm seas and no thunderstorms!

Tight Lines,

08-24-2007, 01:09 PM
This is shaping up to be an epic event!
As far as breakfast goes, I can take SSully's place, if not fill his shoes, as chef. I know there will be plenty of talent to help me out. My reservation about breakfast on tuesday is the issue of keeping the perishables on ice that long. I'll only be able to fit a small amount of ice in my cooler. I guess some boaters will have to make an ice run at some point.

08-24-2007, 01:11 PM
Of course if breakfast is gonna be more trouble than it's worth, I'd just as soon skip it. Means that much sooner to be back on the water.
I only suggested it as a clave tradition. I'm not married to it.
Show of hands?

08-24-2007, 01:19 PM
I also have plates and plastic utensils to bring

** everyone bring water **

Mike -

I will do my homemade corn beef brisket hash if we decide to do a brunch on the island but it would have to be Sunday or Monday. The brisket I use has been roasted for 17 hours at a local meat smoker and I use a combination of sweet and white potatoes with vidalia onions.

08-24-2007, 01:26 PM
Sorry guys I can't edit the top of the thread again. I'll have to start another.

08-24-2007, 01:32 PM
try in a few mins

Jim Miller
08-24-2007, 02:10 PM
Hey John M.
be good to finally meet in person! ( after what ...6 years of trying to fish together)You are certainly welcome to fish on my boat ....if there is not room on Hawkeye's. :)

08-24-2007, 04:19 PM
Here's a link for the great river ramp. I believe it is open to non townies between labor day and memorial day.

John, I do remember that trip quite well. I think the hairs on the back of my neck are still standing up from it:hihi: You are very much more than welcome to join me on the water as long as you don't mind ugly boats.:chuckle:

Mike will be joining in for the Sunday fishing but not staying over - that's why I can take two on Monday and Tuesday.

08-24-2007, 06:18 PM

It's tough to get people back to the island for any type of group breakfast/brunch, especially if the weather is good and the fish are around. Tuesday brunch would probably be ok since people have to come back to the island to pack up anyway.

08-24-2007, 07:41 PM
Where's SSully?

Hey Fred,

Thanks for thinking of me.

Unfortunately as Terry said I can't make it this year. Starting a new job at the begining of the month and can't take any time off.

I hope you guys kick butt I know you'll have a lot of fun.

Looking at the date think albies and spanish macks baby! Troll the Fence with some hairballs (yeah I know they're lures) and bunnie flies. You never know you might even get a chance to cast a fly into them and hookup also. ZZZzzziiinnnnggggggggg.........

tight lines,

PS. A Rays fly is deadly on the spanish macks. ;-)

08-25-2007, 01:31 AM
In hopes of trying to get onto a fishable craft this yeat to run and gun... i am willing to supply the captain of my ride with flies! mushies, candies, whatever you think we need. i will have in depth operations at the vise to insure we have what we need... But that doesn't mean I don't want some jetti love too! Those PM blitzes were truly heart racing!:lildevl:

Any who, i am a big proponent of Coffee and cliff bar in the early AM, but a big breakfast to follow. i'd be more than willing bring some b-fast supplies in addition to BBQ. I will also bring a tub of sushi rice, wasabi, ginger, nori, etc just in case!

08-26-2007, 04:38 AM
So breakfast is ......

Bumpin to the top

Jim Miller
08-28-2007, 07:53 PM
Looks like VTloon and I will be travelling from the mountains to the Cape.
Will have room for 1 more on the boat and certainly can help ferrying people around.

Man this sounds like a great outing! :D

Hey Titleguy .... you going? be great to fish and talk of Lk. George and past girlfriends! :hihi: :)

08-31-2007, 05:32 AM
If the weather and bait holds this should be Epic. I just got back from 4 days on Washburn and the fishing was out of sight, everything is out there right now.

I was simply awe struck at the amount of pnuts and the blitz of bass that stretched across both jetties and on both outside edges all at once. I'm not talking about a large school moving around, I'm talking better cut the engine so the prop doesn't become a Bass-O-Matic (SNL reference:hihi: )
Plenty of blues on top, many without any birds over them. As I was catching blues the other day looking off into the distance at the rips I see fish jumping out of the air with hang time, Yeah - tunoids.

I would like to update my # of guests on the boat to 1 if we have plenty of boats. I don't seem to be able to get up on plane very well with more than myself and one other.

09-05-2007, 08:42 AM
Ok Jim. 1 passenger for you. Our experience shows that we only need boating arrangements for the first day. The rest is too variable and we can work it out in camp. So I will start putting people in boats soon. Some already have people lined up. So we can go from there. Boat thread coming soon.

09-05-2007, 09:42 AM
Thanks Lefty- If I can figure what's happening before the clave I'll take another. Could be the 80 gallons I had on board and my fat a$$. Like you say this all becomes very dynamic after arrival.

09-05-2007, 10:34 AM
BTW Jim,

I nominate you as a backup for cell phone assistance, being the veteren that you are. I am going to PM my cell to the list of attendees to help out the new guys. It mostly matters on morning #1 when we get folks out there. Can you help?

09-05-2007, 11:56 AM
Happy to help out, I'll bring my map book to talk in those that stray from your directions.

09-07-2007, 05:59 PM
I was wondering if anyone has space I would like to join in but no boat this year hopefully next year, I would be happy to help out with the fuel for a spot on a boat for either Sunday or Monday or both days

09-07-2007, 08:04 PM
Unfortunately circumstances have developed that will make it impossible for me to join Boneclave 2007. Hope all have "Tight Lines and Singing Reels"

Pete Readel

09-10-2007, 04:42 AM
I'm in for one day on Sunday . I have a boat ride. FishHawk

09-10-2007, 09:29 AM
oops double post, ignore

09-10-2007, 09:31 AM
Fishawk- are you a passenger on one of the other attendees boats? Reason I ask is for the boating list I'm compiling this week. Nothing fancy, just making sure everyone get's out to the facility and get's a shot at something.

Jim Miller
09-10-2007, 10:00 AM
Hey Lefty
I talked w/ Bill (fishHawk) last night and he will be on my boat on Sunday.

......just as long as he brings good MOJO (or in a pinch .... BEER) :D

09-11-2007, 04:16 PM
I love my wife!!!! her birthday is the 24th... and her response to the clave was "you should go!" WOW!!! however she leaves for work on Mondays at 5:30 so it'll be just a day trip for me on Sunday unless somone already booked a smaller site Sat night

09-11-2007, 05:09 PM
I'll supply Capt. Miller with some beer. FishHawk:D

09-11-2007, 05:38 PM
anyone need a ride on Sunday?
Tom D

09-11-2007, 06:50 PM
anyone need a ride on Sunday?
Tom D

I'm game :smokin:

09-11-2007, 07:52 PM
I'm going to try and make the trip up after work on Sunday for dinner. May not arrive at White's landing until 7pm if I am able to attend. Anyone else arriving late for a pickup? No point in coming just to get me.

09-14-2007, 11:05 PM
ok basser what time are you planning to be there?

09-15-2007, 09:26 AM
Anytime that is convenient for you is OK with me. Meet in the lot, load a little bit of gear, and then I can help with the launching.

09-15-2007, 10:59 AM
Just came back from a recon mission.
Great River Ramp.
The sign says sticker only Memoral-Labor Day, like most Cape town ramps you will be fine, but I would not leave a car without a trailer overnight.
This is the ramp I will use.

I will stop by Whites @ 0:530 to pick up my anglers, and load the back of my pickup with gear. I have a cover on the bed so everything will be dry and out of sight ,anything anyone is nervous of we can lock in the truck.

As it stands now I can only fish Sunday, but that could change ?

I haven't heard from anyone looking for a ride so I have at least one open spot.

Fishing Report, Lots and lots of albies around at this time.

09-16-2007, 07:51 AM
Bigcat - That's good news. Can we park in the lot with a trailer or still best to put it on the side of the road for non-residents?

Adding to the equipment list -
I'll bring a coleman stove, lantern, fuel and another small table for the stove.

09-16-2007, 08:27 AM
I am looking for a ride. I sent you a pm.

09-16-2007, 10:38 AM
Jim.. the lot only had one rig in it and it was a nonresident, I looked for a sticker :)

Shadfreak Larry, got it your in.

09-17-2007, 08:05 AM
Good to hear from you Bigcat. Thanks for taking on Larry. Do you have a full boat so far? Looking for a spot in case J. Morin shows up as a day tripper also.

Jim Miller
09-17-2007, 08:12 AM
I have 3 for Sunday
But....I will have room for 1 more on Monday & Tuesday.
John or any one else is welcome.

shhhhhhh..... long range weather is looking pretty nice! :D

Jim Miller
09-17-2007, 09:11 PM
Is the campsite on the river or Waquoit bay side of the island. I was looking at sat. photos and was curious how to access the campsite from the Childs River ramp?

09-18-2007, 08:04 AM
The Bay side.

09-18-2007, 09:48 AM
Jim, see the link in the first message of this thread.

Regretably, it looks like I'm going to miss this.

09-18-2007, 10:06 AM
This might help - Be sure to stay wide right on the turn where you double back. Beware of the sand bar off of Washburn in the bay, it covers.

09-18-2007, 10:08 AM
bahhhhhhhh Fred? You'll be missed. See ya next year, period.

09-18-2007, 12:34 PM
Good to hear from you Bigcat. Thanks for taking on Larry. Do you have a full boat so far? Looking for a spot in case J. Morin shows up as a day tripper also.

I have one spot open, it would be a pleasure to fish John .

09-18-2007, 01:33 PM
Sorry John, my oversight, J. Morin's dance card is full. Hawkeye's got him assigned on his boat already. I have one more guy to get a lift out out there but I'm waiting to see if he's coming. I'll get back to ya.

09-19-2007, 05:22 AM
Could someone please PM me a cell phone number that can be reached for a lift out. I'm not sure I'm coming just yet but will know last minute. I will be fishing Mon. & Tues. if I come. Any room on a boat those two days. Where is the safest overnight parking near a launch? Bringing a valuable ride. The Subaru is down.

09-19-2007, 08:39 AM
PMing you my number now. We'll try and get a volunteer boat guy to come up and get you. If not, after the morning bite would be better, say 10 ish.
We might have one arrival on Mon.

09-19-2007, 10:21 AM
Terry -

I just got the call from the boss that I will be involved in a customer event all day Monday and Tuesday.

I am down to Sunday only now

Plus I will be up late prepping for the event Sunday night I'm sure.

09-19-2007, 11:12 AM
OK Juro, thanks for the heads up. As far as tables we have 4 of us bringing alternate smaller ones already. That should do it. Anyone who told me they were bringing a table, please do. Maybe one more will do it.

We still need someone to volunteer to bring a washup station. That is 2 tubs, 2 scrunges, and some liquid dish soap. Anyone?

nmbrowncom-does that open a Sunday morning ramp ferry spot on your boat?

09-19-2007, 12:35 PM
I got the kitchen stuff Terry.

Also will still be on the boat Sunday with nmbrown - not monday tho

09-22-2007, 01:42 PM
With the predicted great weather I am not going to bring the big tent. It is a bit of a pain to pack and set up-take down and if we are not going to get rain I don't see the point of going through the bother. I hope this is ok.

09-22-2007, 05:53 PM
Sounds good Hawkeye.
