What the bonefishing like that time of year?

Not bad, if one fishes outside flats and reefs. Key is figuring out where the cool water is. Tha Joulters fish beautifully this time of year, though.

Josko

I never gave you a proper report or said thank you for your help when we went to Andros in April. As I told you earlier, we stayed at Hank's Place for a week and fished every day, drank Kalik's every night. The fishing was fairly difficult, mainly because the wind blew like a mother for about 4 of the 7 days we were there. We saw plenty of fish, but trying to get even 50 feet of line out to them was strenous, to say the least.

We had a guide lined up to take us to Jolter's one day, but the guide spaced it off and we ended up going guideless for the week, which was fine, but it would have been nice to get up there. The wind was from the east and we were hearing great reports about it. I won't name the guide, as we had drinks with him on several occasions later and he is a good dude that just made an honest mistake. We finally got into some fish that last 2-3 days when the wind died down and I have to say that doing it on our own was a very rewarding experience. We spent some time at Somerset, Young's Sound, and one of the guides buddies boated us accross the sound down at Bowen we had pretty good fishing there one morning. Great stuff. We spent a considerable amount of time up Fresh Creek, but those fish definitely had a "hounded" feel to them and we didn't get into many up there. Hank's was a perfect "dirtbag angler" place to stay and the deal was worth the price. I noticed your post earlier where you called Chickcharnies "rustic". Nice way to put it.

Anyway, thanks again for your help with that trip. We had a great time.

I seem to have run into super-educated bones down here - they are jumpy indeed, and it's 'highly technical' fishing. Wave a line within 30' of them - it's over, touch water on the backcast - whole flat clears out. Takes half a morning to dial in a fly they won't refuse, and no chance of getting insde 70', , 16', 12 lb leaders, 7 wt lines and the right fly can still get a couple.
I guess this is to be expected since they've been pounded since february. It's fun fishing, but a far cry from bonefishing as most folks know it.

I am likely to be on Andros again from October 15 to November 5 or so and should have access to a kayak, car and offshore boat.

Looks like October 5 to Oct 28 are the current dates. If anyone from this board is down there, it'd be fun to hook up for a bit.
