: 2nd Annual Stony Brook Tying Clave?

Well first off congratulations to all you hardcores. It's hunting season and trout for me from here on in.

With snow showers this afternoon and my annual club dues payment due a repeat tying clave crossed my mind. I figured that I could get the hall again this year and with a longer time frame for planning maybe it could be a much larger event. Not that the small informal one from last year was a bad thing.

By a larger event I was hoping to have it set up with tying stations similar to a UTF meeting. Maybe even bring in some big name fly tyers to do an exhibition at one or two stations. Juro you would have to do a Deep Sandeel demo. http://216.71.206.188/images/flytalk/Happy.gif" border="0" align="middle">

I could even hire a bartender and have food(pizzas & subs) delivered. Set it for a Saturday full day event in the dead of winter and span all boards great and small. <img src="http://216.71.206.188/images/flytalk/Wilk.gif

Opinions and comments appreciated.

Sully - GREAT IDEA! The hall is ideal for a serious tying clave. Even though I was late due to family obligations I am glad I got there last year. I volunteer some cool videos if you have a vcr / tv screen!

Sorry to ask a dumb question, but where is Stony Brook? I'd certainly do the drive if it's a weekend (might be a bit much for a work night). An all day Saturday event sounds great.

Ok to bring the family?

Sully, of course we'd pass the hat for the pizza and stuff.... If you want to use the sign up, let me know. It's way easy to set up.

Al: Stoney Brook F+S Club is in Chelmsford. Basically it's up rte 495 to Lowell, then up rte 3 north just a bit, then a few miles of backroads. I hope that gives you an idea. Yes it is a haul for you, but I hope you make it either way. I've want to see this Howling Coyote thing Jen mentioned.

Thanks Terry. I'm sure directions will be part of the deal as the date gets closer. Count me in.

The Howlin' Bunny was an idea I had while at the Rhody clave. It's a wieghted fly that swims hook down. It has the same palmered head as a bunny, only I use zonker strips instead of cross cuts, and it's tied with dumb-bells or bead-chain for eyes. The tail is a single piece of marabou over hollow bucktail (for flotation) tied near the bend. It rides with its tail end way up and wiggling and the nose diving -- my thought was to make it look like a fleeing or crippled baitfish. So far, tied in black, it's been a real producer in Bourne. Can't wait to try it out at Chatham this weekend tied in chartreuse/olive/white. I'll post on the archive with pics once I have the tying process worked out.

Can newbies attend? I'd love to learn how to tie in an informal atmosphere.

Wow! I'm really impressed with the response. I paid my dues today so I'm still a member there. Yay!

Juro, there is a TV and VCR right there in the hall. Roll em!

Terry, You can have your own table. Attendance may be a problem though. http://216.71.206.188/images/flytalk/Happy.gif Actually not!

Jared, Greg, Doug & Jim, it would be my pleasure for you guys to attend. And a lot of others as well. It's for fun and knowledge not profit.

Al_D, It's really in Westford, right on the Chelmsford border. And I am trying to plan on a Saturday full day event. Probably towards the end of January. You can bring the family if you like. And thanks for the offer of setting up a sign-up sheet, it will be a huge help.

IronMike, everyone is welcome.

Details to follow...

You got it, Sully. I've set things up for the weekend of the 20th (just guessing). We can change that at any time. Let me know when the dates become firm. Looking forward to it :)

Hey,
Just a thought but: If someone could procure a laptop and a LCD projector, we could have a slide presentation of the Clave photos. Now that would help with the shack nasties.
A little humorous narrative to go along with it too...just ask about mine and Sully's "Roughing it in Rhody" picture!

This sounds great!! I am in and unlike last year I plan on making it! I have a laptop I can bring but no way to hook up to a tv or a projection device. My laptop is a bit on the old side so if someone has a newer more powerful one it would probably be a lot better than mine.

I'm usually at work on Saturday's (except when I'm fishing http://216.71.206.188/images/flytalk/Wilk.gif - but the upside is that I can go in early and I work very close to Westford, so this sounds fantastic!

I intend upon bringing the family, so if anyone else has kids that appreciate playing with 2.5/4.5 year olds, by ALL MEANS BRING THEM! Wife is somewhere just past 30. I think.

Now the truth is out, that extra 's' in ssully's login stands for 'super'! Great to hear that the Stony Brook will have a repeat. Please add me to the info list as the date gets set... Love to make it.

Sully,

Last year I was living a bit too far away to make the event - not so this year. It is only a short drive up 495 now. I'm excited that I'll finally get to make a clave event. Please count me in. I'll see what I can do about the digital projector - although my boss may not be too enthused about me taking it off site (major $$$).

You got it, it is well stored... but you had better make it in the spring because it won't last till summer.

I would also like to attend sounds like a great event. My suggestion is not to have it on the date of the Marlboro show . In any event if that's the only date that you can get so be it.
