Flydoc just asked in the clave sign up thread ,where the meeting place will be at the canal. So where will it be , cape side at the flats by the RR bridge at the west end or behind gallos skating rink or head further east,or somewhere on the mainland side. It should it have easy access to all ,unless we all have bikes then it's just a matter of a central meeting place .

Current turns East at 4:49 am which means limited time on the flats although it could be interesting for those prepared to make the early start. After that I am in the hands of the Canal Gurus :smokin:

I would like to get back to Chatham in time to pick up a clamming permit before the town hall closes so I'll probably hang out until lunchtime

Low tides at 6:17 am plenty of time for the flats.

How long do you stay out there on an incoming tide?

I will arrive around 5 at bell road. Seems like a great place to meet up first.

Until that little rock behind you on the shore gets covered with water:hihi: We will likely find that the bite at the Bell flats shuts off an hour after the turn anyhow. The early crew can wade back and rest in the parking lot at Bell meet the late comers (assuming they bring a box of Joe and Jelly donuts) and then move East in small groups to hit a few spots for a few hours (cell phones numbers can be exchanged at Bell at 7am). If any real late comers need my cell phone number it is available if requested by PM.

I'll head to the RR bridge and look for a bunch of shady customers. There are two car parks there; a smaller one nearer to the bridge, and a bigger one to the west.

My fish sense is telling me head to the west car park; is this right?

I will have to work on the "Brits" - an alarm call a.k.a ice cold shower might just get them moving :lildevl:

If anyone staying in Chatham needs a ride down to the Canal I'll have room for a couple of warm bodies and gear. I will be heading back after an early lunch.

Mr Basser what length shocker do you use on a spinning rod?

jfbasser
05-16-2007, 08:54 PM
Only 3 feet to a swivel. I have tried up to twice the rod length without swivels. I find my current approach more convenient for frequent changes of the abraded leader when jigging.

Sources tell me basser got the first of the clave and also the first keeper. When talking to the source the crew was in the process of trying to find an open parts store for a battery. Seems someone must have arrived at daybreak and left there lights on.

Ummmm

Judging by the pictures of you handsome fellas I didn't meet up with any of you - which explains why when I was talking to the guys I met none of them had fly rods or knew what a clave was. Reckon I went to the wrong side of the railroad bridge - mainland side, I was on the Cape side around 4am and saw a few trucks pull out one with a yellow yak made a few casts and then left for the other side for a couple hours before work. Didn't see anyone catch anything.

Still pretty friendly bunch all in all - as bait hurlers go.
