Looking for volunteers. Specific dates to follow, sometime around Father's Day.

Please participate in this very special event between the Forum, Big Brothers Association, Monomoy Refuge, and Rip Ryder.

Juro,

Unless something major comes up I would count me in. Wondering though if the location/date might be worth a discussion given the unknown status of the SB fishery this year and the less than stellar catch rates over the past few years. Looking forward to it either way.

Like Sean I'll be there unless something comes up. Nothing beats the look on the kids face when they catch a fish. FishHawk:smokin:

I'm in. Every year I think this is as much fun for the big brothers as it is for the little ones. And certainly as much fun for the forum members that participate.

Need more mentors.

For those who are not familiar with this event, please take a look:

I might be able to convince Chris and Brad again this year; however, they both moved to the Chicago area, but salt is forever in their blood.

If it's not on June 16 I will plan to be there. If it is the 16th then I'm a "maybe".

Thanks guys... we are off to a good start

but still short on 'mentors', members - please help us with this great cause.

At current tally we are around 9 strong. However with the momentum we've built up over the years and just weeks away we really need to step up and make an impact on these kids.

How about it guys... take a half day of your cape fishing and pass the torch.

thanks in advance

May be able to do it but need dates...

juro

OK fair enough, we usually do it around father's day as this is the spirit of the event (Big Brothers).

I will speak with Molly tomorrow or Wednesday and we will set a date.

thanks guys and keep volunteering!

Juro,

I would be interested to know if it is the typical Saturday of Father's Day weekend date that makes this tough for people to volunteer. With about 30 guys willing to make the trip to the Cape for the Spring Clave and only 10-12 so far for this event I am wondering if there is a conflict issue we could resolve by changing the date to the weekend before or after the usual Father's Day weekend.

Well, there are 5 week-ends in June this year which is cool. :smokin:

Third week-end is June 16th - which I assume would be the Fathers day w/e?

I am going to be on MV the week-end of June 9th, but the 2nd, 23rd or 30th would work for me if we decide to make it earlier / later.

Great feedback... probably best to do it later to get a little more warm weather potential for the kids.

I would be out any dates in fathers day weekend due to family commitments. Anything after that would work for me.

I agree later is better.

Last year we had the best weather ever and the kids had a great time - they all got very wet:)

Just a thought here ,isn't the reason that we do this on Father's Day is because most of these kids have no father in their lives? While the other kids are celebrating Father's Day they will be alone. Just something to think about. FishHawk

Fishhawk, yes my motivation for conjuring up this event was the loss of my own father which suddenly made me aware of how it feels.

However, given the choice of not having enough mentors and having enough the following weekend, we should settle for recovering them to the big smiles we've seen for 5 years in a row (6 coming up), but a week later.

Maybe next year we will do it the weekend before, but that weekend is typically still cool and may limit the actual fun factor which is always a big part of it for them.

It was thoughtful of you to mention it though, we do the best we can.

Thank you for moving it as scheduling is always a pain. I have a 2 month old and a 3 1/2 year old and they are just too young for me to take off on a fathers day weekend. I am really looking forward to the event and glad I will be able to make it down this year.

Juro, if you want mentors from outside of the forum, I'll bet I could draft some guys from crossroads anglers( my flytying club) I'll put out feelers to get an idea, and get back to you. Tom D

That's a great idea thank you!

It's coming up pretty quick and we need as many as we can get. I will check with BB on the current headcount of pairs and post the status.
