It's a robust rod for a 7/8 so it should serve you well. It'll obviously work well with a CND GPS 7/8, but also with the new style GrandSpey 7/8 and a DT-10-F. It has a moderate action, but plenty of butt power that's easily tapped. When lifting and casting a long line, it won't fold in the middle like some of the "Traditional" rods of this line rating.

I should mention that I was so happy with this Solstice that I've ordered another -- the 9/10.

When I came up with that name "Solstice" (I was once involved with marketing them) it was with reverence to those blissful summer steelheading days where I would be casting at 4am and packing it in at 10pm.

At the lat/long where these fish are native a rod that is both sweet casting and powerful is not only desireable but necessary. These rods are built with an IM8 graphite that can bomb line despite never feeling stiff. Light as a feather and with a faultless action, aesthetics second to none.

That rod and it's little brother are two rods I will never sell, or be without.
