: leader question

I'm still new at fly fishing, question. I'm gonna try wet flies this comming year. Can I still use my floating line an let the wet fly sink on a fairly long leader? Or shoud I get a sinking line.
I want to fish for bass but the places that I go to has lots of bass but of course has lots of stumps and logs deep, I just want to try and stay above that stuff. sort of a deeper subsurface wet fly.

Thanks and Merry Xmas.

That will work very well. In fact hit the pond early and late and the fish will be prone to surface attacks on floating flies too.

How deep is the water?

I rarely use a sinking line for bass fishing or any kind. It tends to get the fly hung up on weeds, stumps, etc.

Flier....I use a 7 1/2 foot leader... if I have to go deeper than that I use a sink tip that can be connected to my floating line by loop to loop....It makes a little tougher to cast but it will get your fly deeper....J.Hightower
