I am thinking about buying some tackle from Canada and having it shipped over here. How does this sort of thing work on the VAT? do I have to pay when I get it over here?
Any help would be great,

I'm not sure of the correct amount, but I think that it's anything over the value of £25 will mean you are liable for tax. The tax is horrendous: pretty well anything Customs can think of: import tax, VAT, fishing tackle tax, breathing tax, so that what seemed like a great saving ends up costing you more than buying it here. I'vbre berern stung with an ordeer from Bass Pro Shops and it wil lbe exactly the same for Canada.
With classic tackle and books there is no problem: with modern stuff, you are stuffed – unless it's £25 or under. A customs form must be attached by the seller, and far be it from me to suggest that they put the value down as £25, because that would be dishonest, wouldn't it?
There's a form on the Inland Revenue website somewhere, but it's hell to find it. I've got some notes in my office but not back there until the 4th. When i get it, I'll send you the reference because I'm sure you'll want to make sure you pay the correct tax, so there's plenty of money to support loads of Romanians and Bulgarians to come to England and be paid to raid our lakes and rivers and ponds.
