Why does this satellite map look nothing like the river does today? Did they do major changes to the stream course at some point in recent history? I only started fishing there in the last year so I don't know much about the history of the river...

That satellite picture is not the river. Zoom out and look for the Winsor dam and river road. the stretch above rt 9 has always had a feel that its the result of buldozers to me. There is a book that has the usgs maps of the area long ago if your inclined to hunt it down through the library system. I cant remember the tittle.

Ahhh, thanks John! I'm looking at the wrong dam! Doh! :)

The stretch above Rt 9 also seems a bit unnatural to me too. Maybe when the built the dam, they did some work on the river channel too.

Tef,

You been to the swift lately? I haven't been over there since Sept and was wondering how it is fishing? P.M. me
