Does anybody know how the screw-on end of an aluminum rod tube isd attached. I got a REC tube ('classic' end fittings http://www.rec.com/html/rodcasealuminum.html) that I'd like to shorten by ~4". I can't figure out how the top attaches to the tube - can I detach it somehow, cut the tube, and attach it back again? What's the attachment mechanism?

I don't know exactly how they are attached, but my quess would be with some type of adhesive/epoxy.

I know you probably don't want to hear this but, they're not that expensive to buy one of a proper length, considering your time and effort to shorten an existing tube.

My other suggestion would be to simply call REC and ask them. Who better to ask than the manufacturer.

Knock out the bottom with a long piece of wood and hammer. Cut to length with a hacksaw and reinsert bottom. Use a piece of wood to hammer the bottom back into place to avoid marring the bottom piece. Ij've done this a couple of times, and no biggie.
