: LL Bean stripping basket

I seem to remember a reasonably-priced LL Bean stripping basket - hard plastic basket with molded cones, but I can't seem to find it on their website anywhere. Do I not know how to look, or have they discontinued it? Or was it somebody else that came out with a ~$20 stripping basket a year or two ago?

Thats a nice basket. A little heavy though.

Yeah, that was LL Bean. I have no idea why they would have discontinued it. For $20 it was an awesome deal! Try eBay and some local fly shops to see if they still have it. You could also try calling LL Bean, they might have one in a store.

Tried to reply to your PM but your box is full...time for some spring cleaning!

How do you do a bulk erase on pm's? I cee the little check box next to each one, but can't find anything like 'delete all selected messages'. Anyone?

You have a few options. The first is to just completely delete everything. To do that there is a message at the top that reads something like "You have 100 messages out of 100 allowed". Next to that is a link that says empty all. If you want to save some there are a number of boxes you can check. There are ones next to each message but there are also boxes at the summary level that you can check and choose delete at the bottom.

Delete is one of the items in the pull down menu at the bottom whose only visible pull down is "move to folder"

Thanks John. Should have plenty of room now.

So can I conclude that LL Bean has dropped their basket from their product line?

I won't link to it here, but their website has a Modular Fishing System, Stripping Basket, $19

If you willing to spend 2 1/2 times that check out Orvis.
I ended up springing for one because I couldn't find from there either.
Tired of issues with the homemade rubbermaid version...

It certainly looks like the hard-sided basket is MIA from the website, but I was in the store in Freeport last night and they had plently of baskets in stock there. I'd imagine you could call up and order one over the phone even if you can't find it on the website- the number for the fishing specialists is 800-FISH-LLB.

Yes, indeed, the LL Bean, reasonably priced stripping basket, has been discontinued. I e mailed them and that was their reply. They suggested I check back with them at the end of the year as to availability. Why, at half the price of the Orvis basket it would be discontinued, I don't know. So many flyfishers I've met using that basket are so pleased with it. I use the Orvis basket but if something destroyed it, I definitely would go with the Bean basket. Pricewise and design wise, it would do the job. Why, why, why, LL Bean?

Believe it or not, we are developing a much better basket. Because of complications like day jobs and investment capital, it's not going quite as fast as it could but then again we are not talking about silicon chips here now are we ;)

As long as rubbermaid is in business there is a reasonable alternative, but I think you all will be quite amazed when hardcore fishermen make a hardcore basket.

That's all I can say now, I think it will speak for itself. :)

Well, juro, we are all awaiting this "mystery" designed stripping basket of the future. If it's better than the Orvis basket and cheaper than the LL Bean basket, you've got a winner! Keep all of us up to date.

Here is what LL Bean told me regarding the discontinuance of their great stripping basket:
I am very sorry to write that we have discontinued this stripping basket. Our manufacturer of this item is no longer making them. I hope we will offer them again in the near future. We regret your disappointment in the meantime.

Wonder why Bean would discontinue it? It seemed like a reasonable product at a great price. Wonder if it's some sort of a patent infringement issue or somesuch.
