What is the rod weight and length of choice for bluegill in south Louisiana, also some mention of good lines would be great also. Thanks for the input.

I'm not sure about south LA, but up here I use no more than a 5 weight for the bluegills. I normally use a 3, but bump up to the 5 when there are bass around that might also be taking my offerings.

I use a floating line 90% of the time, but then again I don't really ever fish for bluegills in water that's deeper than 6 feet.

Have fun. I hear that the bluegills down your way can get fairly large.

A 9 ft 5 wt would be my choice. Then you'll have enough backbone for bass too.

8 1/2 foot 4 wt. is my choice. I use a Rio Grande 4 1/2 wt. floating line on a fast action rod.
