tail/wing feathers have a less fuzzy herl on flue than ostrich with fibres up to 7" in leanth....

when stripped from quill they are attatched to a thinlayer of stem(racis) that allows one to wrap/palmer as a hackle (all of which can be a royalpain)

or just cut off fether and tie in bunches...
