: Summer trout fishing

Hi: Now that we are in the "dog days" of summer, is it really worth fishing for trout? I live in R.I., and I have not been able to scare up anything over the last two or three weeks. I don't see the fish rising very much, but mosquities and gnats are chewing on me quite often. Is it a waste of time now that the blue gills are active and mess up my dry flys whenever I fish?

Thanks

David

You need to get up to NH, Vermont, or western MA where the waters are cooler. The Swift is also active, though the fish are very picky! (see my report in this section)

Go to the Farmington in CT and stop in at Upcountry. They will set you in the right direction.

Welcome Gollum!

That's a huge brown... please tell me more about Umbria country. I was fortunate to have visited Italy a few times over the years and some rivers appeared to be good fishing rivers but I was unable to stop and check it out.
