OK, this isn’t salmon or steelhead fishing but it did happen on the great lakes so what the hell.

This past weekend on the mighty Niagara River we held our first and hopefully not last “Fly Fishing for Carp invitational tournament”. The tournament is the brainchild of outdoor writer Rick Kustich. In his great wisdom Rick saw this tournament as “something to do when nothing else is going on!” We originally thought of making it charity event but most of us were to lethargic to pick out a good charity so we just went and did it anyway.

Pictured below is Forum member Vince Tobia who drew first blood by taking the first carp of the day. Also shown is the first place trophy for the contest.

Reminds me of when I was a kid living on Grand Island catching carp on dough-balls all summer long.
