I AM INTERESTED, IN A COMBONATION ROD (STRIPERS IN THE SURF) & A SPEY ROD FOR STEELHEAD. I HAVE BEEN TOLD THE SCOTT A21308/8 WOULD BE A GOOD COMBONATION, DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY EXPERIENCE WITH THIS ROD. ANY HELP WOULD BE APPRECIATED. THANKYOU JOHN :D
Everyone has their own view of this, but for what it's worth I've done both extensively and have come out of the journey with the opinion that these are two different rods. Or at least there is a compromise involved in both directions to get something in the middle.
A good steelhead Spey casting tool isn't always (or often) a good overhead casting tool with the types of lines and retrieves typically used in striper fishing. Sure there is an application for Spey techniques in striper waters, and in some situations Spey lines.
However I would not go May thru October for stripers with the same rod I would take to chase steelhead in November thru April.
This topic has been discussed in great detail, I would recommend doing a search. Good luck with your search and I hope you find the magic all-around rod.
