The one time manager of the Ponoi river lodge, Mariush, described a system so simple it is hard to believe.
The leader consists of about 12' of 12# chamelion Maxima with a perfection loop at one end. It is attatched to the line by tying an overhand knot in the fly line and looping the leader behind it with a girth hitch!
Mariush assured me the this was strong enough and proven by hundreds of customers.
The leader rolls the fly right out(if you can cast like he can).
Here's to keeping it simple.

Pretty wild! I wonder if he ever fishes a sunk line? Also, very wind resistant flies? Both of those may potentially introduce problems - pulling off a snag without a solid joint, turning over a big bushy fly without a graduation of stiffness and taper, etc.

On the other hand, it might mean he never needs anything besides a floater, and doesn't have to throw popsicle marabous to raise those native Ponoi monsters to the surface!

Suddenly I am very jealous.
