: Too Early??
03-24-2006, 06:46 PM
Ok, I know it's still in the 40's outside but now that we have our Swap flies,I'm getting itchy. So is it too early to plan a Spring Clave ? Seems like the last one fell apart due to time.
I'm thinking somewhere in the Bridgewater to Cape to NH border triangle. ( I believe there was a suggestion for Maries Pond in Rochester last year)Canoes or Yaks on Smallish Ponds ( That warm up first)? Maybe throw in a shore BBQ?
Early May maybe?
I figure if we start planning now, it'sbound to work out sooner or latter.

How about Saturday Afternoon May 6th? Mary's Pond and surrounds. I will be doing some Striper fishing nearby in the AM.

Is the Rochester area convenient for a lot of people? That's fine by me, but I'd rather hit Snipatuit than Mary's Pond. There's a couple of reasons for this.
1) Mary's is a fairly small pond and it could be kind of crowded.
2) It's stocked with trout, but the bass population isn't great, and I'd rather fish for bass. Also, because of the stocking, it's likely to be more crowded (see above :) ).
3) The pond drops off very quickly to deep water so you can really only fish around the edges.
I also have a great bass lake by me with lots of access and very little fishing pressure (Lake Mirimichi).

I believe we zeroed in on Rochester last year because it was convenient to Rtes195 and 25 and we could combine a little salt with the sweetwater. The Mary's area gives two ponds (and styles) to choose from within a mile..For those that prefer shallow "bass" water "Leonard's" Pond is right up the road. I would reserve Snippi for Pike..

Hmmmmm pike sound pretty interesting... :D
I did some searches on Leonard's and it sounds like pretty good bass water, though I found something that said you need to get a pass to launch from the dam area?

No problem with the passes.. I will be able to get them.. I believe they are the same as the ones used at Black Pd., which is the pond that most people use to access Snipatuit.

Since the proposed date is only a little over a month away, it might be worth cross-posting this in the worldwide area...
EDIT: What the hey, I decided to take action on my own thought and do it. :)

Have fun with it guys. I can't make Saturdays for a while with everything that's going on at the academy where I teach.
I expect a full and detailed report.

Kinda tricky for me too currently - doing a lot of business travel.
If I can make it I will!
03-29-2006, 02:22 PM
Hope you show up Adrian...we need to make this happen...Fishhawk told me that he does not know how to catch largemouth (smallmouth in Mary's also) so he will need some training!
03-30-2006, 03:23 PM
Come on, there's gotta be more people interested! Regardless of how many people we get, I'm in! :)
03-30-2006, 03:50 PM
I hope the weather is good! To get a few more takers I may have to spill the beans about the private lake:devil:
03-30-2006, 08:42 PM
Sounds good, especially the part about pike fishing :D , but I'm not sure if I can make it. Besides, if I get that close to the coast I don't think you'll be able to keep me away from the saltwater :hihi: . Pencil me in as a "maybe" . . .
03-30-2006, 08:55 PM
Come on Q, you live just down the street from the coast. You can do that type of fishing any time you want to.
Looking forward to fishing with you at some point this season.

Anybody else interested? Or are we looking at a 3 man clave (me, Wee Hooker, and jfbasser)?
04-17-2006, 12:04 AM
Well, it looks like there's nobody else interested, and jfbasser isn't in any more. Personally, I'm telling my wife that this is still on and I'm taking an entire day to go fishing. Anybody want to join me? :D
04-17-2006, 08:02 AM
Well, I started the thread and am still very interested. Are we sticking with the origional time and place?
04-20-2006, 10:55 PM
I need to double check with my wife that I'm still free to go. :)
The original time and place are fine with me, but I'm more interested in bass fishing than trout fishing, so I'd prefer to hit the bass pond. We could always do both though, I'll just have to bring both rods!
04-21-2006, 05:14 PM
I'd preffer to fish for bass as well. Maybe somewhere directly between or close to us? I'm in the Fall River area myself.
05-05-2006, 11:12 AM
Ok, I know it's last minute, but I've got a day pass. Are you still interested? I'm up for anywhere, so if you know a good bass hole, let me know!
05-05-2006, 09:37 PM
Well, I though it fell through so my wife scheduled a family thing for tomorrow that I realy can't miss. I'm still up for someithng in the next week or so though.

Hey Scott.i see your favorite place is also mine:S.Andros.
I fished it 3 years in a row-last time in 2003.
I want to go again, but all my ff buddies have been light in the wallet the past few years with kids, taxes, and now gas prices making it even worse.
If you ever are thinking of a trip and can't get a partner--give me a shout.
