Dear members of the Flyfishingforum,
I would like to represent you the waters of Slovenia. Idrijca, Savinja, Soca, Sava Bohinjka and other rivers are just some of those beautiful pearls that run through our country.
I think some of you have already visit our country and have fished here.
In our country there lives one of the most wanted trouts on world - the marble trout. (Salmo marmoratus)
Slovenia is located between Italy and Austria, it is smal but very various country. It has it all, from Adriatic sea to the high snowy Alps.
Especially I would like to represent you the Savinja river. It is located in the north of Slovenia. It is tipically alpine river. It is habitated with natural brown trout up to 30 inches, natural grayling up to 20 inches and natural and rainbow trout up to 30 inches.
The best part for fishing is the part that belongs to fishing club RD Ljubno ob Savinji. That means almost 40 kilometers of this beautiful river from its beginning, where the river is so cleand, that you can drink it.
Daily licence costs 40 euro (aprx. 50 $) and three day licence costs 100 euro (aprx 120$). Most of the river is C&R only.
If you would like some more informations, you can visit the homepage of our fishing club www .rd-ljubno.si or you can contact me on my email adress: email@example.com
Guiding and lodging can be aranged easily. There are few lodgning places located near the river, from high class hotel down to comfortable and cheap lodging houses. You will be warmly welcome anywhere.
Here is some pics of the Savinja river and fishes. If you would like more, please say.

I read the post by Gregor and had to respond...
I fished in Slovenia back in 2001 and it was ONE OF my BEST angling experiences ever! The water is incredible, the resource is intact and the management system on the rivers there is excellent.
I cannot say enough about the country, the people and the incredible scenery and excellent rivers to fish. I will be going back either this year or next and it will not be my last trip to this magnificent country.
Not only is it an incredible place to take a fly fishing trip, it is also a PERFECT trip to share with your wife or girlfriend as there is so much to do and everything is so close. You can fish the morning, spend the afternoon with your loved one and then hit the evening hatch without skipping a beat.
The food, local sausages and spirits are unique!
For my money it is one of the best desinations on earth. Period!
Best to you all,

Amazing place, but don't go there as it's too good for you and don't want it to get crowded!
Gave a presentation on Slovenia at the Anglers' Club, Manhattan, last night, so if you have any questions would be happy to answer them.
I think I'll go back, or maybe to Croatia this year.

In the two pictures right above my post here are they both Brown Trout? The one on the bottom looks like a Brown Trout but the one on top looks like it may be a hybrid between a Brown and something else. That is some really great looking water. I hope one day I will be standing in that river waving a stick:) ...

Kory both are pure brown trouts. There you have some subspecies of brown trouts in our country and you can fish for all of them in just 2 hours of driving apart.
We have the most known marble trout, (Salmo trutta marmoratus) that is the largest trout in Europe and it lives only in the river Idrijca, Soca and in their streams. Then we have the most spread brown trout (Salmo trutta fario) and our lake trout (Salmo trutta lacustris) that lives only in the Bohinj lake and in the Bled lake, but it is rare catched.
In the rest of the country lives brown trout, that has some fenotypes over the world as you perhaps know. However all of the trouts on the picture are from the same river and are genetic 100%pure. The difference in pygmentation is because of the habitate where they live. The bottom one is from the down part of our district (caught near village Ljubno ob Savinji), and the upper two brownies are from the upper part of the Savinja river, near the village Luce.
That is the difference, nothing else. If one wishes, I can open a new thread here and we can discuss about pygmentation and ichtyology of the trout. I have a lot of pics from brownies and we can compare...
Othervise, the biggest brown trout from the Savinja river measured 35 inches.
Here is some more pics of brownies, all from the Savinja river.

Forgot to say - I think you all know the fish vieved in my first post in this theme - it is a nice male grayling, that also inhabits almost all rivers in Slovenia, and there is especially a lot of it in the Savinja and in the Sava river.
I also forgot to say, that the rainbow trout also lives in some of our rivers, since some people brought it from the USA long time (50+years) ago. However the brown trout and the grayling are most often species.
Thanks for the info I really appreciate it. Those sure are some beautiful looking fish..........
