Hi all,
This is my first post on this board.
I'm a long time fly fisher who finally got around to trying fishing for Atlantic salmon for the first time recently (I'm not counting a lot of nice Ouananiche that I've caught in Nunavik).
I fished on Sept 15th and 16th last fall in the C section of the Petite Cascapedia with a guide. In two days I landed 3 salmon (largest at 17lbs) and 1 grilse, and am now, as they say, hooked.
I'd love to fish the area at its peak in July, but I won't have time until the fall this year. I'll have the 3rd and 4th week of Sept free to roam between rivers with a buddy.
I'm definitely going back to the Petite, it was a nice river and the unlimited C water held good numbers of nice fish. Are there others that I should try that have walk-up unlimited access to good fall holding water?
I really liked the fact that I didn't have to enter any draws/lotteries, but just hit the ZEC early in the morning and bought my permit for the day. There was not one other soul that I saw in the C section over those two days. I hate fishing in crowds. Sept was a nice time. I'd also fish the public unlimited water because it is cheap - I'm going on several expensive trips this year, and don't need another one to add to the bills.
I'm new to salmon angling, so any help would be much appreciated!
Thanks,
Troy
