Curious if anyone has tried either the Rio Outbound or Airflo Beach Line in a warmer climate? Looking for a line/head setup for beach fishing with a T&T 1212-3 in Baja, and there just doesn't seem to be a lot available in longer heads currently. Would also be curious to hear opinions on favorite running lines for beach fishing. Any and all recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

I prefer an intermediate running line for beach fishing to combat waves. There are two schools of thought (1) floating running lines can be lifted over waves (2) intermediate running lines cut through waves. I am in the second category and have never had much luck with the first. With floating running lines I don't want to interrupt my retrieve to lift over waves every 3-8 seconds, plus I find it difficult to lift a running line over a wave at any distance beyond 20'.

hard to find tropic heads, I think Monic is getting there. When I was rigging heads I simply purchased discounted WF single hand tropic lines (~ $15-20 Airflo clear and SA sinkers) and cut them at 38'. The heads work well with sufficiently long forward tapers that won't dump. Cutting a few single hand lines also yields"free" backup running lines for the tackle bag.

I haven't yet tried them in tropical climes but my guess would be that both would work. The Outbound has fantastic long-range turnover and is my go-to lines on the beach; the running line on the airflo is one of the best I've ever used - but you'd have to experiement with then in hot climes to know for sure. Wulff makes a "Bermuda Triangle" taper tropical line that comes in a 12wt, I have tried that one in the tropics before the other lines hit the shelves and loved it. It has a longer head with grains distributed more gradually which makes sense in some applications. It runs a little lighter than the others (more true to AFTMA) so keep that in mind.

We are lucky to finally have great choices in the two-handed line space!
