Hi, Guys,

A bunch of coho fanatics want to make up a fly called The Blue Chicken, last year's killer on Alaska's lagoons.

One modification we wanted to make was to use rabbit cross-strips for the hackle. Unfortunately we cannot locate any electric blue dyed rabbit. We were thinking of dying some white rabbit ourselves. Tried Venillard (spelling -- sorry) dyes, but wound up with blue rawhide rather than usable strips.

Anybody have any suggestions?

Pattern is simple:

Blue Chicken:

Hook: TULE whatever sizes 6 - 1/0
Tail: white straight rabbit strip, about half as long as body
Body: white ice chennille
Hackle: Electric Blue Saddle Hackle (thought X-cut rabbit might be better)
Head: red, white or black

Fly is fished in still water on a strip-pause-strip retrieve, allowing hackle to work.

I'd be very grateful for any dying tips and techniques.

I'd take a look at the acid dyes offered by Pro Chemical and Dye (they have a website and have great customer service) because they have a very nice royal blue dye in Wash Fast Acid dye that is probably just what you are looking for.
