: Monomoy Fall Classic - Sept 24th (Sat)

Each year we enjoy one of the least touched flats and inlets on the east coast with a select group of 15 anglers from the Forum - the north tip of South Monomoy.

What's been the surprising bonus is the population of flats hunting cows that just won't give up on their shallow water sorties even into September. I landed two keepers in the first three shots one year, and FredA landed a fat fall cow that lingers in my memory still.

It's also the famous "southway" from the virgin side - who knows what it will be like since this is the first year.

Rules:

Hold your place by posting here. Posting will oblige you to pay for your spot if the boat does not fill up, unless we overbook in which case the spots will be filled on a first-come basis.

Special thanks to the National Wildlife Refuge staff and Rip Ryder who make this possible.

John

Total for this trip is 3.

The CAC event sounds an excellent idea... We might be late though as our flight doesn't get in till 20.15 on the Saturday night. We then have to clear customs (never easy  ) and get the bus down to Hyannis, where Basses will be collecting us... Phew!

I'm in for either day, or both, depending on demand for Saturday. I was a wee bit close to that area today, and slammed them, but no keepers, biggest about 26.. Lots of bait.

Would be happy to switch spots with Striblue if he can only go on the Saturday- would love to meet the blokes from across the pond- would still pick up the Atlantis from Juro on Saturday AM and possibly even kayak over from Stage Harbor to join up with the Saturday group (if OK with the South Monomoy Defense Force- we better check with Pete on this one....). I'll bring my extra strength shark repellent

Juro, if I'm not mistaken, Craig is returning from Maine on Saturday, and can only fish on Sunday.

I think if we don't have the numbers for Sunday, it is a case of kicking in some extra bucks. for Keith.

flydoc
09-16-2005, 09:47 PM
Juro- would be happy to go both days, if there is room. Seems the Sunday trip is the most thinly manned at this time, so if John needs a spot on the Saturday boat and that one is full with me signed up for both days, I'll relinquish my spot on Saturday to him. If I can't get the Atlantis from you that weekend I'll just make do with my 9 wt until the following weekend (Boneclave!!!).
Thanks again,

Stevo- the "other" ferry service in the area charges $20 per trip, so $21.50 wouldn't be unreasonable, considering Keith's usual rate is a real bargain at $15 per head. I have no problems giving him a little extra if needed to make up for short numbers. Looking forward to meeting you and the rest of the Queen's own...

I'm with you and flexible on this too.

Hey Flydoc, if you want a paddling partner for Saturday I was contemplating hauling the yak up to Chatham. There's some interesting structure to check out on North M. as well as the N. tip of South.

Whatever works. I'm up for a few extra $$$ to fill the Sunday 'kitty' if we're still short. :smokin:

Guys

I don't think Matt & I are going to get to the Squire on Saturday night... The bus doesn't leave Boston (Logan) untill 21:45 and we still have to get from the drop-off, at Hyannis, to Chatham. No chance. :frown:

Plus we want to be fresh for the Sunday trip to South Monomoy.

If anyone is heading down on Sat PM I'm sure they will offer to drive you down. Otherwise that sunrise on Sunday is going to be much sweeter if you get the sleep you should after the long transatlantic flight.

Sounds as though you are all going to have a cracking time.

Hooked up with Matt and Silas (Basses) at the Dog in Dulwich Village last night for a jar or three; the guys raided my flies and hooks. Both were very excited (like rabid dogs) about the forthcoming trip. :hihi: I am very jealous, and will be thinking about you whilst I am in BC hunting the salmon. Who knows if the fish aren't biting there I may have to skip across the continent. :lildevl:

Breezy Sat, but sight fishing is in the cards...

Saturday: Mostly sunny, with a high around 64. Breezy, with a northeast wind between 13 and 22 mph, with gusts as high as 33 mph.

Saturday Night: Mostly clear, with a low near 48. East wind between 5 and 9 mph.

Sunday: Mostly sunny, with a high around 68. South wind between 5 and 10 mph.

Flats are on the north end, and stretch for miles to the west and north from the tip.

Inlet is at the landing and south, and the big beach goes on for 8 miles to the rip.

Literally anything can show in this area including hardtails.

Should be a classic indeed!

Doc, what a great time, and you finally got the Fez. Silas, from the UK, is an excellent fisherman. His mates, Stevo, and Matt, are also passionate about the fish. We have banged some good fish the last few days, and their enthusiasm and sheer determination and have paid off.

Thanks John, for a good eveing following a fine dine at the Squire.
