I realize I havn't posted in a while...110 heat index and hurricanes don't exactually put me in the mood to fish.
Anyway...got a early Christmas present this year. I show up for work and there's a message to call my detailer (the guy who tells me where I'm gona live for the next 3-4 years) right away  ...I stop and panic for a few minutes "This can't be good!"...I go outside and use my cell, I don't anyone else in the office to see me burst into tears...I give him a call back and am informed that I've been selected for "Joint Service Weather School" with a follow up tour in Kodiak Alaska!!!!

I'm excited, just thought I'd share!

The Pics from my last tour on the rock...

Great news! When does your assignment up there start? How long were you there for last time?

I suppose that if you have to settle for a location, Kodiak ain't too shabby.

Good luck to you up there.

Kodiak is an angler's paradise. I go up there every year to chase Silvers, and fish from off the road system. I don't know when your assignment starts, but the fishing is good from April through summer and then 'til the snow flies. If I had it to do all over again, and know what I know now, I would have started teaching there thirty years ago and just stayed.

Have fun! You'll love the place.

I posted too quickly. I notice that you say your catch was from "The Rock." If that means Kodiak, then I apologize for the assumption that you are going to be new to the place. You most likely know the territory better than I do.

Anyway, the wishes for good luck and a pleasant stay still hold.
Kodiak: northernmost of the Hawaiian islands.

Cheers,

Eric

Kodiak, isn't that, that little Island west of Sitka? :smokin: Did you ever get tired of eating King Crab? (Neither did I)

Everything is going fine, havn't gotten any word on my house yet. I hope to make it in sometime this week. I have been to the city as part of the rescue operations and it's pretty bad, most of wich I dont feel like posting. Keep thoose still out there in your minds.

Hang in there, I'm sure the last week hasn't been easy. :(

My thoughts are with you and I wish you the best with everything. Hopefully your house was spared the worst of it.

Thanks for all the support, it's greatly appreciated.

I finally got into my house, my roof collapsed. I'm not really worried, we have insurance and managed to get all the un-replacable stuff out before we left. Kinda weird having to start over.

I'm out of the city again and looking forward to getting to sleep on a bed. Still pretty bad down there...the water has a thick coffee like apperiance.

Anyway, like I said, Thanks for all the support!!!

Great! Glad to get this report and my sincere best wishes for as near-normal as you can get in your situation.

I'll really look forward to the time when you say you've been able to go fishing again!

Cheers,

Eric

One step closer, I've moved from New Orleans to Biloxi for the school. I should be getting to Kodiak sometime in November this year.:) Biloxi took a pretty good hit, pretty much as bad looking as NOLA, just less press. Anyone that has ridden up highway 90 wouldn't reconize it...almost everything is gone.

From what I've been able to tell Biloxi is a strong community though, I havn't heard anyone complain. They seem to carry the attitude that "we live here and hurricanes happen". I'm almost ashamed to say that thats a great relife from the attitude in NOLA.

Anyway, thanks for all the support!

I took some pics from 90 the other day, there posted on my site.

On a side note, although they got allot of bad press, my insurance company quickly and accuratly processed my claims. They even gave my family an advance the day they processed the claim to help make ends meet. The company is USAA, can't say enough good about them!
