I will be going to Alaska to fish the Copper River the week of September 4th. I not sure if I should take breathable waders or neoprene. All my fly fishing trips(both of them) have been out of boats. I am a novice at this, and I don't want to take the wrong equip.
Personally, I would bring two pairs if you have them.
If weight/bulk is an issue, consider the ballistic OS Systems travel wader. It's not breathable but it's the most durable wader on the market and has the most comfortable feet. It packs small and comes with it's own bag as well. They retail for about $150.00
Drop me a PM if you are interested.
I fish Alaska from mid-September through early October and take only my breathables. I wear heavy wool sox and heavy wool pants, plus long underwear beneath them. I fish a lot out of float tubes, which tends to chill you to the bone in that water if not adequately bundled. It's a toss up -- I wear the wool stuff and take the breathables because they pack so small. If you have the room, take both types and see what you think from an on-site comparison.
